Advice on clothes please fellow mummies!

Hi ladies,

I've just done an inventory of all of bubs' clothes so far and would like to know what you think of it i.e. do I have enough?

I've kind of steered away from buying too much newborn stuff, cos I'm guessing it lasts about 5 minutes and I do expect that when people buy him presents they'll probably get newborn, and I've concentrated more on 0-3 months. Writing the list has shown me that I clearly need far more babygros in 0-3 months, but is there anything else that stands out as lacking? I just don't know what to expect being a first time mummy!

Here's my list:

Newborn

Cardigan
9 babygros
2 dungarees
10 short-sleeved vests
2 long-sleeved vests
5 pairs of socks


0-3 months

Liverpool kit
3 T-shirts
3 long sleeved cardigans
2 long sleeved tops
Checked shirt
2 pairs of jeans
1 coat
16 vests
Combat trousers
2 babygros
1 tank top
1 body warmer

3-6 months

Long sleeved top
Jeans
Arsenal kit


2 cellular blankets
2 fleece blankets

3 grobags
3 hooded towels

2 hats
3 bibs

Honestly the number of clothes you need depends on two major things: how messy is your baby going to be (reflux/spitups/blowouts) and how often are you willing to do laundry.

I got a TON of hand me downs, and quite a bit of new clothes with my first, which was good because she went through at least 3 outfits a day, and typically two changes at night - through spitting up, diapering issues (as in, oftentimes we'd put the darn diaper on wrong/too lose and have a mess...) and whatnot.

Personally, I don't like doing laundry more than twice a week, so I'd probably double all your 0-3 month items! I will admit - I have *way* too many baby clothes though

Thanks FeistyMom - yes that's the bit I'm finding it difficult to gauge, but then how can I gauge it when he's not here yet! Maybe I should be thinking about it in terms of '3 changes a day' and think about how often I want to wash clothes
