Hello ,

Just after a little bit of advice :flower:
Ive been off work for quite a few weeks, ive been in and out of hospital.. do i have to call in each time i get a new sick note? or just send it in? Makes me feel so worried calling in, and they know im not guna be back for a bit.. just wondered if i had to keep calling each time?

Thanks so much for your help xx

hiya, just depends on your companies sickness policy. I know its not nice for you to have to call, but they have to cover you if you are not there. If you are signed off you have a legitimate reason for it and there is nothing they can do about it. But they will feel more favourable to you in the long run if you keep the lines of communication open.

Best of luck xxx

I'm still off sick 2 and have been since week 7, I don't phone every single time I get a new paper cos my doctor just gives me a couple of weeks at a time but I am in contact with a lot of the girls where I work so they know I'm not coming back yet, I just phone every other paper my manager doesn't seem to care I'm not well so I think why should I ring her. I'm seeing occ health later hoping I wont have to go back xx

Glad im not the only one, im loosing so much weight with this pregnany with all the sickness.. hope you are ok xx did they contact you to go in to see the occ health? are they based at work? hope it goes ok xxx:hugs:

No I asked to see them myself they are based where I work (nurse for nhs), I was off initially with hyperemesis like u but now I have SPD and am in constant pain waiting physio so there's no way i can go back to do the same job I was doing before as ward is so busy, so Im seeing them so they can help see if there's lighter duties I can do instead and they can make those suggestions to my manager otherwise I'll stay off sick xx
Hope u feel better soon 2 xxx

I am also off work, but this is a new job for me and i predict that im gonna be booted out! So i have made sure that even after a telephone call i follow it up with an email to confirm or reiterate teh conversation.

Defo email and request a copy of the absence policy and say you want to make sure that your following any necessary procedures!

im also off work have been signed off for 8 weeks now, they have been funny with me since told them was pregnant as i work through an agency, they didn't even bother phoning me when my other sick notes ran out,so i always ring and tell them iv been signed off and i take my sick note to them and hand it in and also get it signed for.

I would def call and keep in regular contact. As a manager, it wound me up when people just sent in sick notes with no courtesy to explain what's going on so we could plan ahead as a team. As a manager, I also do not like calling people when they're off sick as I don't want to seem as though I am pressurizing them (it's not that I don't care that they're ill). So I do think it's the duty of the employee to call in advance of sending in another sick note. Especially since they're still getting paid!
