Hello everyone! My husband & I are going to our first dr appointment on May 3rd. Does anyone have any advice what I should ask the dr? Or what they might ask me? I plan on asking a lot, I just feel so flustered like I'm going to forget something! Thanks & baby dust to all :)

You could always go in with a list of things ou want to ask. I walked out not having asked half of the questions I wanted to. I wouldnt have a clue what to ask him though, sorry!

Good luck

x

What sort of appointment is this? Have you been TTC for awhile now?

Well ill assume that you have been ttc to conceive for a year or more, since you are seeking medical attention...are you periods regular? Do you have odd periods...? Do you miss periods? More information please!!

I just went to my first doctors appointment this week, probably slightly different as i'm in the UK which meant it was my GP (which i think you would call your family doctor) so he wasn't a fertility doctor or anything specialist.

The first question he asked me was how long have we been trying? how often we have sex? had we increased having intercourse during our fertile period?
then he asked the usual do you smoke? how much alcohol to do drink in a week?
he then weighed me & measured my height to determine my BMI. He also asked about my periods in the past, whether i had had any problems with them being regular.

All i really wanted to know was whether I am ovulating? And also I think I have a short Luteal phase so I asked him about that.

They will lead the discussion, as i'm sure they are well used to answering the questions you'll have.

He then booked me in for a blood test to check my hormone levels and a scan of my pelvic organs to check everything is okay there as well.

Good luck

Sorry, can't add anything to this but good luck! Just wanted to ask pinkfee (as i'm in the UK too) have you been TTC for long before going to the doc, or have you been charting and realise you have a short luteal phase so thought you'd get it checked out?
Thanks!

Hi roomaloo

Yes we've been trying about a year and probably NTNP for a further 6mths before that. This is my fourth month charting temps as a close friend of mine recently got pregnant and said it really helped her learn about her own cycle more, its from charting that I think i've got a short luteal phase as so far its not been longer than 10days, i tend to ovulate between CD16 - 18 and then my cycle length so far has been between CD26 - 28 days.

How long have you been trying for?

I think unfortunately in the UK if your under 35 and haven't been trying for a year, unless you know there is something wrong with you then your GP will probably just send you away to keep trying.

Hope thats been helpful x

Hi SRG09.

I couldn't just R&R, i just wanted to wish you all the best with your appointment. I'll be going through it all soon i'm just being tested for PCOS then we can get on the Baby Path!!

Good Luck!

Ahh thanks Pinkfee, thought that would be the case. I've not been trying long, a couple of months, and just started to chart this month but doesn't really seem to be reflecting what i thought it should! So i wondered if you realised your LP was too short to naturally get pregnant you could go to the docs sooner. Im sure it would be frustrating if you knew you were unlikely to conceive, but still had to try for months more and then wait ages potentially for an NHS appt.

Hope all goes well with your scans etc x

thanks me too!

Roomaloo you could always check with your GP just incase, no harm asking the question? There are several threads on here re: vitamins/minerals and herbs you can try to lengthen your LP. But as i was so close to being a year trying I thought i'd get myself checked out first before I go adding anything else to the month ttc!

fingers crossed you get your BFP before you get to the year point! x

Sorry for the lack of info :/ It's our first meeting with the Dr. for infertility issues. We've been trying for 4 & a half years. I've been charting for about 6 months but I have irregular periods sometimes 2 a month, sometimes none. Thanks to everybody for their advice & well wishing! Good luck to you also :)
