Hey gals!

I'm flying tomorrow morning, and I'm concerned about the body scan at the airport. Should I opt for a pat down instead? How do you guys feel about this?

They say they are safe. I opted out, did the pat down, it was no big deal. Go with whatever is the least stressful :)

I'm not sure here in the UK we get an option. I'm sure I went through it when I was pregnant last time. I certainly didnt get the option in Egypt after the riots and went through the metal detector there.

I work for an airline, you have the option of pat down, I've heard the the arch doesn't really have an effect however it's the full body scanners want to avoid

The metal detector and body scans are different things. The metal detector is just sensitive to...metal.. is an old technology that has been around forever and is perfectly safe. And you probably can't opt out of it unless you have a metal/electrical implant like a pacemaker and a doctor's note.

While they say the new body scan tech (where you stand in that tube/box and raise your arms) is safe, it hasn't been around very long so the longer term effect on pregnant women can't have been exhaustively studied. While it's probably fine, I'd opt for a pat down on this one, since that is usually an option anyway.

I am flying to the other side of the world in a couple of weeks, I will be 14 weeks. And my midwife said to ask for a pat down instead.
