Hi, my baby is now 9 months, she hasnt been very interested in breastfeeding for quite a few months now but eats very well and enjoys a bottle at night before bed, supply was quite low and because of this we decided to stop breasfeeding. I'm really happy to have done it for 9 months and now stopped because she just wasnt interested, is really enjoying food, water from beaker and bottle at night.
But as she is only 9 months I thought that she needed some substitute for the small amount of breastmilk she was having.
So I tried some bio formula milk - the first 4 times she has been having lots of farts and explosive poo's, this morning it was all over her bed!
Usually in the eve before bed she gets sleepy porridge, which does have cows milk in it as powder, she has never has any probs with that.
Tonight I ran out of sleepy porridge powder so i mixed the rest of it with the formula milk, she finished half the bottle then started crying inconsolably for about 5 mins, and then she vomited a huge amount for her little self. he obv had a huge pain in her tummy.
Does anyone think she may have some sort of allergy to the formula milk?

Dont know what to do right now, so just will be feeding soya baby milk (which is suitable for 1 year +)

It could be the soya or fish oils that are in most formula these days that are the issue, this could explain why straight cows milk doesn't cause a reaction xx

yes it must be something in the formula! doubt that its soya or fish oils as she eats fish and drinks soya milk regularly. I was careful to buy good quality (same brand as her sleepy porridge: BioBim) follow on milk, oh well :( going in the bin now, what a waste of money.
This morning she popped on the breast herself (pulled my top down and latched on) i let her have some milk, lucky I had some left, it doesnt seem to flow for long though, and then she has the other one, just never sure she is satified with it though. So i gave her breaskfast right away, then at mid-day some fruit 150ml soya milk (suitable for 1-3 years)..but she's only 9 months, hope thats ok

I see that you are also at your 9 month bfing milestone, could I ask how often you bf? and is your LO on 3 meals a day now? Do you find your supply is low?
Thanks, just want to compare with you to see if I'm doing ok.

We are BLW and taking things extremely slowly so atm LO is only on an average of 2 meals a day, usually lunch and the evening meal; have recently tried offering 3 but he isn't that interested and one of the meals was ending up being launched across the room or casually dropped on the floor when he thinks we aren't looking, he feeds a similar amount of times daily to when he was smaller, so about 8-10 times in total, though most daytime feeds are shorter now-anything from 2 minutes to 10 minutes usually though he will still occasionally have a 40 minute feed during the day. Many babies just get very efficient at feeding as they get older; so it seems they are tiring of feeding or not satisfied but its just they get full that much quicker xx

ok I think i took things to fast since 6 months she has been on 3 meals a day and therefore less interested in BFing, we only did in morning and after lunch.

Since my BM is in short supply guess she gives up on it and knows the bottle gives her more. Still really happy to get to 9 months and she still has a suckle from time to time :)
She not interested in milk during the day, only in the morning and before bed at night. Ive just been giving her the soya milk, but its suitable from 1 year, so looking at soja formula, might buy that tomorrow and see if her body takes to it, I hope so cuz its such a waste of money otherwise. thanks for your response. I didnt do BLW exclusively, yet we do do it at least once a day, it wasnt working for Vivian as she wasnt getting the hang of it and hence not putting on any weight and since spoon feeding she's been putting on weight and growing perfectily.
