So spring is here and my allergies are back.. I am 11 dpo today, do you ladies think I can take my allergy meds as normal? I take zertec(generic brand)

I am not sure if I end up being preg, if I can continue taking it or not.. Just looking for an opinion as I can not call the drs tonite to ask them.

It is a category B, I would not be concerned in the TWW.

Thanks miss.. Forgive me for sounding dumb, but what is a category b?

Pregnancy safety categories, let me find a link. I would definitely inform your doctor if you get a BFP, but it is considered reasonably safe.

B =No risk in other studies: Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women OR Animal studies have shown an adverse effect, but adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in any trimester.

Aww I see! Thanks that makes sense! Ite like what can cross the placenta eg Tylenol vs Advil.

Not really, what has been show to or not shown to cause harm to the developing baby. Not just cross the placenta. Lots of stuff crosses the placenta but is considered safe still.

I am on a category D drug, but I would not being in the first or early second tri because of it's risks, but in the third tri the risks are much lower. It's up to your and your doctor.

The first trimester is the riskiest, because of the development going on (where later it is mostly growth, not development).

When I was pregnant and now trying for so long with a fertility specialist help and guidance. Both my gyn and RE tole me I was able to take benedryl, zyrtec, and allegra. Used zyrtec and then benedryl for sleep. There are threads in search on here from other women on here that took the same and some other stuff too. When in doubt, call your doctor. Good luck and hope you find relief.
