how can you tell if your baby is allergic to the milk they are on??? x

if he was you would know, would be being sick, might not be going to the toilet or going way to much, would be in huge rash and fever, what symptoms does your son have to make you think this?

well he was allergic to sma when first born and with that he threw up constantly. now he is on cow and gate comfort milk and is very unsettled all the time day and night, rarely sleeps properly and if he does its only for an hour or so (other that that he wriggles and screams in pain in his sleep) and in constipated all the time, even tho i have given prune juice. generally he just doesnt seem "right" iykwim??? x

your able to give your 2 week old son prune juice anyways might be worth talking to the doctors and see what they say, cow and gate comfort can cause that in kids because its heavy and usually for kids with AR etc, i would maybe try a goat or soy based milk my son could only have soy or goats milk or emfimil AR from us.

i seem to be needing to give him prune juice all the time tho so i know somethings up. im sure its the milk as he has had allergys to other milks too. the poor little mite can only settle for about half an hour at a time which is exhausting us all :( x

My son has a cow's milk protein allergy and a soy intolerance, he is on a hypoallergenic formula and doing well. He was sick all the time (he's got reflux too though) and developed a very bad rash and wheeze (he had to have breathing treatments for a while).

It may be that your LO has an intolerance or a sensitivity. Definitely talk to his Dr. about trying another formula. Also, when we switched my son, the Dr said we may see some symptoms of the allergy for up to 2 weeks while all the protein clears his system so if you have recently switched, this could be the issue.

Also, remember he's very young still. Lots of babies that age don't settle very long at all.

were you medically advised to use cow and gate comfort and prune juice, even for my 3year old we were told never to use pure prune juice only to dilute it 2 parts water and one part juice, is the wee man on movicol or lacotos? my son is one these because he can't go to the toilet himself. i would get to a doctor and ask for tests or just get the milk switched hun, like blondeNklutzi says sometimes this can linger.

i hope you get some help soon and wee man settles without discomfort, my son was just hell on all cow and gate when he was born he was put on it because he was premature and tube feed and gave him it before could get to the nursery scub to see him i was furious because he never went to the toilet till he was almost 5 days old.

yeah the cow and gate was medically advised as it has reduced lactulose, but i think he needs a change to soya or something without any lactose in it. he is so unhappy it breaks my heart :( x

thats shame hope you get some help soon my son was the same, but luckily fought to get help which well helped lol ended up getting him milk on prescription which was great too because was soooo expensive to have it imported.

there are many different reactions to milk intolorance. Sophie was always screaming in pain, hardly slept (for a max of 2 hours rarely) and then started to have blood in her stools. The hospital sent us home twice saying it was a tummy bug but it continued and i wasnt taking 'tummy bug' as the reason. Made them keep us in and review it. As soon as they changed her milk to hypoallergenic the blood stopped almost instantly. The hospital staff said they had never seen a reaction so bad and were surprised she was even taking it. She did sick it up now and again but that didnt change when she was on the new milk she has always been a sicky baby!
