Ok so this is my first pregnancy and im only around 5 weeks. Im a really active person and dont like being ill or people moping around me. Anyway I was intending to just carry on as normal, obviously being more careful especially around the horses.

Yesterday I had cramping and bleeding so went straight to get checked out, they took blood tests and did an internal exam and want me back tomorrow for a scan to rule out miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy. Im petrified iv lost my baby!

But after reading some of these threads it seems I should be sat in bed not doing anything! Am I just being paranoid and should i just carry on as normal? Or should i be taking it a bit easier? So confused, really dont want it to be any different but would hate myself if I lost the baby.

Sorry I know its long and im probably being daft!

I don't think you did anything wrong. The midwife at my doctor's practice said it's okay for me to go about things and even exercise, so long as my heart rate doesn't go too high. I had two miscarriages before this pregnancy, so if it's okay for me to exercise, it seems like it would be okay for you. If your bleeding is from a miscarriage I really hope you won't blame yourself. I really don't think you could have caused it.

Firstly, fingers crossed you and the bean are both ok. Everyone is different hun, and therefore no two pregnancies are the same. I can only speak for myself but at nearly 8 weeks, I am going to the gym and pretty much carrying on as normal (except really having to fight the exhaustion). However, a lot of advice in terms of being active does state that it's wise to avoid physical activity that involves contact to the abdomen, or a risk of falling; hence I've given up playing netball. Ask the doctor when you go back tomorrow for reassurance.

There's no need to stay indoors all the time and wrap yourself in cotton wool - if you feel ok there's no reason you can't do the things you normally would, as long as you're safe :)

A lot of ladies don't do anything because they feel so crappy - I'm only 4 weeks and the tiredness has set in, but at 6-8 weeks symptoms can set in hard and you can feel totally fatigued and sick and unable to get out of bed even if you wanted to, LOL.

I would say though, if you have had cramping and bleeding, to take it easy for now until you know everything is OK. :) x

Thanks guys, thats put my mind at rest a bit. Im just praying that everything will be ok tomorrow. Its awful not knowing whats going on

When I was bleeding I was put on 100% bed rest. Could only get up to go the bathroom. You might want to do the same until you see a doctor. or the bleeding stops. Thats what I was told anyway. And, trust me I'm not the kind of chick that likes to sit around. As far as exercising I was running 4 miles a day when I got pregnant. Now i just do 2 with no full blown out running. It's more like a brisk walk.

Same^ before the bleeding I was just as active as before. But when I started bleeding I was put on bed rest just to be safe. That doesn't mean you have to be on bed rest if you're not having any problems, just go about as normal!!! But for now I'd take it easy until the scare is gone :flower:

Hiya,

When I had very heavy bleeding and cramping I was advised by the hospital to take complete bed rest and only get up to go to the toilet. Like you, I couldn't do this - I felt laying around made me worry more, and so I carried on like normal even going to work.

I went back to the hospital for the scan a couple of days later for them to say that the baby was healthy and heart beating away like normal.. I have since suffered from bleeding, but the doctors have told me I may just be one of us women who have that throughout.

I agree with an early message, if you feel well enough, carry on like normal.. There is nothing worse than laying around worrying and wondering 'what if'.

My fingers are crossed for you that your baby will be okay.

xx

Listen to your body. The first time I was pregnant I thought the same thing and did really active things (like mountain biking) even though my body was sending me messages to slow down (bleeding. And some cramping). I lost that baby at 8 weeks.

This time I am still active. Dragging my butt out to go hiking and jogging but nothing really physical and I am listening to what my body wants. Maybe a 2 hour moderate home Instead of an Intense vertical one. And am napping more lol!

Just listen to yourself and don't over due. Everyone if different and every women's body can handle different things.

i was torn about working out (still in my tww) found i felt like crap if i didnt. did some research and found that even the heart rate limits are no longer felt to be accurate. https://www.mayoclinic.com/health/exercise-during-pregnancy/AN01560

My dr told me it was ok to do whatever exercise I normally did. Except it's cycling so I'm not doing that in case I fall off. As long as you don't take on a major new challenge and do something out of the ordinary the benefits of excercise outweigh the risks.

Having said that I think the girls who said listen to your body are right. If you need to rest, rest!

I hope the tests all go well and your baby is ok. xx
