My baby has been very active lately and even woke me up last night with erratic movements. I was getting concerned about his being in distress and I looked up possible causes.

It said somewhere that I should cut down on fruit, caffeine and sugar?
Okay I have an ice coffee every morning but I don't drink normal coffee and rarely have soft drinks. I do crave sugar after dinner so normally I will eat some chocolate or lollies

I eat A HEAP of fruit during the day.. I spend my nights cutting up all different types and getting it ready so I can snack on it all day thinking its healthy?!

Am I causing him to be hyper??

Youd need nearly an overdose of caffiene to really do much to baby. I wouldnt cut it out

jerky movements like that are normal at this stage...i wouldn't be too worried hun. I also have 1 cup of coffee a day and also a lot of sugar.

As a diabetic.. yes sugar and fruit cause babies to move more. But thats not really a big concern

From what you are telling us..sounds like you are quite healthy! So dont worry too much.

I dont have any any sugary drinks or coffee/tea. Just plain water

But i was asked to have some Coke to get my baby to move for an ultrasound... boy did my baby get super active.

My baby is really really active, in fact so much so that his kicks/pushes really hurt, and I end up doubling over in pain at work. He's obviously a big strong baby. Anyway, a few weeks back I realised I was actually eating a lot of sugar, so I cut down on that drastically. I can tell you now that it's made no difference, haha. My aunt has 2 boys and she told me one was really active during the pregnancy, and the other not at all. I think it just depends on the baby.

I dont touch coffee (cant stand it) have the odd fizzy drink nothing drastic, maybe a can a week.
Barely touch sugary stuff and dont eat any more fruit then the adverage person.
Yet I still have a gymnast in there that bounces about for at least 18 hours of a day with really strong jerky type movments.
My son was the same.
Some babies just dont believe im giving mum any piece of mind or rest :)

Unless you have GD, there's no reason to cut back on your fruit or anything. My kiddo is pretty crazy right now as well. :winkwink: I feel like I am being used as a trampoline! It didn't help that I had a cappuccino yesterday evening... :haha:

I wouldn't worry :flower:

Two pregnancies for me and my diet has been pretty much the same throughout each. My first boy was actually quite laid back during pregnancy.

I only realise this now because my second boy is quite honestly a lunatic! My skin actually hurts on the inside because of all his acrobatics, he's a certifiable nutter :haha: Think I might have a feisty one on my hands...

I think it's still important to be conscious of fruit intake. By no means cut it out (I've been loving all sorts of fruit this pregnancy), BUT it does contain a lot of sugar so just something to take into consideration. If you add that to the sweets you have at night, that may be why baby is going crazy at night. I asked for it last night when I ate fruit right before bed...it really set the baby off lol. Sounds like you are doing really well, but just keep in mind, there is a lot of sugar in some of our "good/healthy" foods :)

^^^This! I wouldn't cut out what you've mentioned eating or drinking. I honestly don't think that sugar even gets most babies going. It doesn't do anything for mine and didn't with my boys. They just have times where they're more active than others, especially at this stage regardless of intake. There are times baby will be crazy active and I've been starving, and then when I eat she calms down, so I don't think it has anything do to with it, unless you're taking in massive quantities of caffeine. I'm talking WAY more than any non pregnant person should even be consuming. I never drank any caffeine with my boys, but haven't really cut it out much at all with this pregnancy and she's no more or less active than DS1 and DS2. Now I do usually keep it to under 200mg/day of caffeine, but definitely haven't cut it out completely like I did with DS1&2. I need my Starbucks Grande Mocha Light Frap a day to keep up with my 3 and 4yr old!!

I noticed actually in the second tri that chocolate got my baby moving. When I went for my 20 week scan, he would not budge, so the tech asked me to go eat something & come back a bit later. I ate a kitkat and 20 mins later he was bouncing all over the place, haha. Now in third tri, it doesn't seem to make a difference either way what I eat. I just had beans on toast a little while ago and now he's really pushing/kicking while I type this. :p
