Hi ladies,

After posting daily for over a year I am so busy with he two little monsters that I barely have time to use my iPad.

So.... All my friends are TTC and I am getting kind of broody again. NO way I wanna be pregnant too soon though.

My oh doesn't want any more babies but he has agreed that when the time is right he will rethink.

I have a question, as everyone tells me I will.... Am I going to have twins again?!

As much as I love them - I wanna have one baby next time. I wanna bf for longer, baby wear and sleep more haha. All the things that are difficult with two. Selfish... I know! :( but you understand I hope.

I would feel blessed and know I could do it again but how likely isit that I conceive twins again?

If we do TTC we will do it towards nov 2014 so the twins will be almost at school when new baby comes.

Any of you other twinmums who are thinking of having more?! When? And are you scared to get two again (if conceived naturally?)

Tia! Xx

My twins will be 2 years old in August and I'm NTNP for another and I must say, I'm not too enthusiastic about having another set either lol... Of course I would be blessed and we'd find a way to manage with two more but I'd much prefer one!! Mine were natural and the shock of my life after having my singleton son 11 months previous!!

Statistic wise, I really have no idea. There doesn't seem a definite answer answer that I can see. Everyone you ask has a different answer. What I will say though is that judging by a twin and triplet group on facebook that I'm a member of, there is a scarily large amount of women with two sets!!! But.... there is a larger proportion of women who've gone on to have singletons too. I'm just gonna take the risk :D

I think the older you are though, the more chance of releasing two eggs so I'm keen to get on with it now - I'm 31 this year so hardly ancient but I know that I DEFINITELY couldn't handle another set in a few years time, personally!!

Eeeek new babies, exciting stuff :D

Im sooooo broody for my next one!:haha:

Think we're going to ttc in about a year. Ours are identical so from what I can work out the chances are just the same as they were the first time. I woukd feel so blessed if we got twins again, but I would love to just have one. I would like to breastfeed, co-sleep, and have lots of cuddles, without feeling bad about not cuddling the other one!:haha:

I think if your twins are non-id then you do have a greater chance but not actually sure on exact statistics.

I would love to have one more but my DH says I won't want to after the twins since they are so much work. Ours were conceived via IVF so if we were to try one more time I think I would only want one embryo instead of two. I'm older so if we were to try again we would have to do it as soon as mine turned 1.

i am done having babies though some days i want to have more the twins are growing too fast.
but for me i had 3 singletons before i had the twins. if that helps with odds.
my mother had just me after the twins. i have an aunt that had triplets and went on to have two singletons after that, i also have one aunt who had 3 sets of twins and 2 sets of triplets(out of 17 kids) still amazes how they managed with such big families anyways that a whole other topic. but i think it could go either way really.

I think the chances are slim. Unless when you ovulate you release 2 eggs every month, then I'd say your chances would be about 25-50%. Not very many women do release 2 eggs consistently so I don't think so. It depends though I think, a lady I work with had 2 sets of twins (8 children in total); so I think she always released 2 eggs. If you don't want to risk it maybe go see a gynae who would be able to tell you if you consistently release 2.

I know exactly where you are coming from and I'd be exactly the same if I were to have any more ( not going to happen, lol ). Especially as I have non Id twins and my Mum is one. I would say chances are pretty slim and as said above you don't hear of that many people having two sets and chances do increase with older age.
As you can see from my siggy I've had 2 singletons before the twins and I was 29 when the twins were conceived so not ancient.

My first pregnancy was twins (non identical) and I had a further 2 single pregnancies after. TTC one more, although if it were twins again I would be delighted!

Ideally, we would love to have another (single!) baby when the twins are about 5 years old, or almost 5. That way, they'd be entering school and I'd be free to spend one-on-one time with the new baby. I'm not TOO worried about having twins again, because my girls are ID, but it can happen and I'm keeping that in mind. I love the bond they have with each other but I couldn't physically do twins again.

Of course, I'm not on any birth control right now, soooo.... :dohh:

i have a 6 year old, 3 year old Id twins and a 2 year old, plus i'm single :D I was really hoping my last would be twins, i wanted twin boys as my eldest is a girl and so are my twins, i got one boy and he is just fabulous all by himself :) are your twins identical? identical twins are a random occurrence and very low odds of it happening again i would've thought. it's thought that fraternal twins run in families so i would've thought fraternals would be more likely but still very low odds. you never know though!

I had 6 singleton pregnancies before my twins. Mine were identical though!

Thanks for all the newer a ladies.

On my side we have loads of twins and yes, cases of twins twice too. On my oh's side his great aunt had twins twice too.

Mine are fraternal so chances are higher plus, we TTCd for 10 months and exactly on the month I ovulated twice I got pregnant.

Also, we will wait til nov 14 to TTC our 3rd so I might really go and see a gyn to investigate my ovulation pattern.

For now I am enjoying my two beauties. Xx

I just posted a thread about UK twinning rates.

It seems that your odds would now be around 28-1 as you already have a set of frats. So you are four times more likely to have more frats than someone who hasnt already got a set.

Altho that sounds like a big chance it's not really and you are still more likely to have a singleton next time.

If you want to try for a singleton then do it sooner rather than later as (from what I remember!) you are still a younger mummy and your odds will go up later on!
Also make sure you keep your BMI less than 30, and if you are tall you might have to chop your feet off! :haha:

Thanks meeze!! Yeah I am almost 24 and bmi is about 23ish so should be ok. I am short, 162cm so trying not to think about it... :)

Xx

I think the odds would depend on whether your twins are ID or fraternal. If they're ID you should have the same odds of conceiving twins as before. If they were fraternal that means you released two eggs, in which case that may be somewhat regular for you, so you'd be more likely to conceive twins again.

As for me and the OH we plan on trying again next year. And while I completely understand why most people would prefer to have a singleton after having twins, I would be tickled to have multiples again. LOL Although I would prefer twins rather than triplets simply because I had so many physical restrictions while I was pregnant and was in the hospital for a week before I had my trips. I wouldn't want to experience all of that again with 3 little ones at home to take care of. But twins? I would defintely be okay with that. lol

Hi

I will not lie when I went to have my scan my first question was "Is there two in there???" and actually breathed a sigh of relief when they said "no it's one". In all fairness my twins were HARDWORK the first year, they never slept through and Cal only did when he reached about 6 months and Darcie...........still getting up 3x a night at nearly a year until I gave in and did CC.

Yasmin my singleton, has been an absolute treasure, she slept through from 6.30pm to 8.30pm from 2 weeks old and has been a total breeze, so I think if I had two of her I would have coped with having another set of twins. I think you need to remember you have got through something so far that would break alot of women, so it shows you are capable of anything. I've started a new business on an evening and I'm studying for my degree on an evening too, I just keep saying to myself ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. If you have another set of twins you will do it :) you will cope, to be honest I wouldn't mind one more but financially it isn't an option.

Good luck hun :) xx

Naturally conceived frats your odds are 4 x, some sites say 1 in 12 others 1 in 48, it's not very consistent.

I feel the same though, yes there is something lovely and magical about twins but its also got it down sides like double prams and not being able to just sit a nurse one etc. for us the car would be a major issue too!

I'm off all contraption later this month for other issues and part of us jus feels like trying. But I'd like one, I wouldn't be upset if it were twins, I love beings twin mum but it does complicate it, triplets on the other hand, hats off to all those ladies, that would terrify me but I'm sure i would be delighted too.

So interested to read this. I swore that these would be our only babies and even planned on having my tubes tied while getting the c-section. But since it happened so quickly, I never got a chance to talk with my doctor.

And now I'm feeling kind of broody. I LOVE my twins and they are a joy and honestly, not any harder (actually I think easier) it seems than what my friends with one are going through.

So I've been thinking and thinking about having another. Age is a big factor for me so if we were to do it, we would probably need to start thinking about it sooner rather than later.

Honestly, though, I would worry about another set of twins, esp given they're fraternal (natch) and I'm older. And another set of twins would be A LOT to handle, esp close together in age.

Things to think about....

Our boys are now a month old and we want to try again as soon as I've healed from the C-section enough. We would have officially started already if I had a vaginal delivery. We planned on trying again when I was still pregnant. We would be fine with another set if twins (hopefully girls).
