hey all i have my first antenatal class starting today was wondering if you could give me some heads up advice.

what to wear? joggers/tracksuit bottoms/ leggings

are you expected to get into crazy positions in front of other people?

do they measure bump?

my first class was a little boring actually ! you can wear whatever you like and its more about talking to other mothers there in the first class ! :)

we havent done any crazy positions or anything :S weve been sat on chairs most of the time or stood up whilst doing an activity like bathing baby (doll lol )

i havent had bump measured its the sort of think you should do with your health professional not a group of people ! :)

hope this helps xx

We havent had ours yet but I wouldnt have thought theyd measure your bump or get you in any crazy positions! Its more of a talking session with a group of other mum-to-bes and I'm sure you can wear what ever you like, or in my case, whatever fits!x

Ours was talking and listening and some group work, again chatting. There was nothing physical involved so just wear whatever you're happiest in :)

Our sessions were all sit watch and listen!!

Ours were in the layout of a classroom, and we just sat and listen to the mw taking the class, had the chance for q&a and went home, not tracksuit bottoms needed :)

The most active thing we did was a tour of the maternity unit in week 3! The rest of the time we sat and listened to the mw/physio who was taking the class or discussed infant feeding, pain relief and symptoms of labour depending on the class topic. Any measurements are done at antenatal appointments rather than at the class and discussion tended to be general rather than specific to one person - i.e. any problems discuss with your midwife at your normal appointments. I dressed comfortably as was expecting a lot of sitting around. Hope that helps.

i do hope its more then sitting and listening ill get bored otherwise.

they start at 7:30pm for 2 hours im normally asleep by 8pm latest...LO gets active at 3am without doubt lol!!!

I have chosen to take the broken up class, 2.5 hours over 4 weeks as opposed to long 1 day sessions. We have done positions and breathing exercises, lots of dicussion. The down part for me is that I have a had a fairly awful pregnancy with just about every symptom you could have...nausea/vomiting/weight loss/SPD/depression....and I am stuck in a class with ladies who have all had perfect pregnancies and think the process is really wonderful (which is so not how I feel about it, i view it as a bit of a test of wills) so I struggle a lot with ladies in the class and thier biggest worry being the labor having experienced no negative symptoms at all. They also look down on my choice to have a elective c section due to a heart condition I have as they all want natural births which makes it kinda the wrong fit of women for me. Hope you get a class with women who share your views....
