Both our girls are full of cold at the moment. With Poppy at least I can dose her with Calpol and Decongestants but Florrie is stuggling so much with her breathing.

Any tips or advice on how I can help her and hopefully let her get a good nights sleep??

you can tilt the cot mattress up using towels
we used that balsam (smelly stuff you put on a tissue) and just left it in her room

hope they get better soon

I had a vicks fan, or something, and that really helped alex

infant nasal aspirator, it allows u to remove all the snot from ur babys nose, it does the same thing that we do by blowing our noses. very easy to use, all u have to do is put the tip of the aspirator at the nostrill, and suck gentally through the tube. they are great. u can get them from chemists, also there is a website u can get them from have a look at www.4little1.com/bnc
they can be used from birth. i would highly recomend it, also helps LO feed easier. x

Saline drops are good, you can buy them over the counter. A few drops up each nostril and it helps unblock little ones nose! My gp advised these when my lo was all blocked up and snuffly x

I had to take olivia to doc on call as she had a cold and temp was between 38.6 and 38.8 even with calpol. the doc said calpol is carp and to give her brufen and OMG what a difference it made x

Hi hope she is feeling a bit better today. Its horrible when they are poorly. The saline nose drops are good and if she has a slight temp then u could give her some calpol. Sam is not very well at moment he had his jabs last week and was running a high temp for four days took him to my doctors on friday they said it was his jabs and to give him calpol regulary. His temp went up to 39 last night and he was really crying so we took him to doctor at the hospital and he has an ear infection. xx

Snufflebabe is good hon.
Hope your LO feels better soon x

My LO had acold a few weeks back and we gave him a couple of spoons of calpol (it says no more than 2 doses on the box) and some saline drops when he was stuffy.

You can get the saline drops free from lloyds pharmacy on their mild ailment scheme

Hope she feels better soon.

Thanks. Says from 3 months though

Louise85 - thanks for the info about Lloyds, that's really useful.

LeannieB - hope your little man is better. Must have been horrible having to take him to hospital :( Florrie slept really well till about 5am and then she was struggling to breathe and feed as her nose was so blocked. Hope she's over the worst of it now.

I used snufflebabe from 6 wks old, with advice from doc. Put it on inside of grobag near top, but out of reach, so not touching skin. It helped Keagan loads!!!

calpol saline spray has been brilliant with Ella - 11wks.
cleared all the dry snot and eased the congestion.
you can use as often as you need from birth.
what I would say however, be sure not to use too close before a feed (I bottle feed) as it runs down the throat as their passages are so tiny and made Ella throw up quite a lot after.
Karvol is a good one as well, the little capsules that you break.
It says 3mths but we used it anyway, just dabbed on a muslin and hung near the cot at night which we but two chunky books under one end...
No fun having a newborn with a cold.
Calpol was a nightmare with the spoon and baby mouth being so tiny etc... I used a syringe from the nurofen we have :)
