We are always worrying about finding the perfect name - just wondering if anyone *thought* they named their baby the perfect name but now regrets their choice.

Share the name and why you regret it. (Examples: everyone mispronounces it, your child hates it, ppl scrunch their nose when they hear it, it become super popular and there are 3 other kids with the same name in your child's class, you realized too late that the initials spell ASS, etc.) That sort of thing!

Maybe no one has any regrets? Maybe once we see our children, the name just suits them and grows with them? This is a possibility!

Just curious!!

I do love my daughters name summer lara, I only wish I kept to my original of Lara summer. That said she absolutely suits her name

I love my DD's name but I do regret not going with another name. DD is named Violet. Since I was a child I've loved the name Isobel but obviously Isobel/Isabel/Isabella have become very popular now and when DD was born we debated on what to call her for a week before deciding to go with Violet as it is less used. But I do wish we'd used it! If we have another girl this time I'm pushing for Isobel even if it becomes number 1 choice for girls and boys!

My sister's DD is named Lexie and it suites her perfectly! My sis does say she wishes she named her Lexa or something similar that might be better for when she's older

Not me, but my friend. she called her daughter Elsa. Super uncommon but pretty!... And then Frozen came out.
She hates it :/ haha

My sons name is Nicolaas, shortened to Nico ( pronounced neecu) loads of people thought i was crazy but his dad is south african and its a variation of a family name. I love it, i can't imagine him being called anything else. I have some friends that have named their kids Luke, Cillian, Ava and Holly and 2 of those friends have told me they kinda regret not using a less common name.

my girls are called Rosalie and Ivy. Whilst I love them both I do sometimes find Rosalie's name a bit of a mouthful in comparison with Ivy. I feel like Ivy's name is just as beautiful and feminine ( I think) as Rosalie's name It just rolls of the tongue easier.
none of my family Liked either of my daughters names but I didn't care. I have had a ton of compliments on both their names though . In saying this I absolutely refused to let anyone nickname Rosalie sooooo . I Guess its my own doing its kind of a long name lol .

I love Rosalie and Ivy!

I dont have any regrests as I picked names with my heart, didnt over think and went with the flow. Jade was a odd one for me but when the thought came I used it immediately and it fits absolutely spot on and I love it. Ruby is my favourite name ever so I dont regret that either. I never hear a name that I wish I used but I do wish I used Elizabeth as a middle name but it didnt sound right.

Rosalie & Ivy are a perfect sib-set! Gorgeous names that compliment each other very well!

Thanks everyone for all your honest answers!

I don't regret my son's name, but I do hate that it became so popular in recent years. There's no way to really predict a name shooting up to "Top 10" though after you use it. Unless you pick a very obscure name, I guess... lol.

I don't regret the name we chose for our lo but almost everyone says it wrong. His name is Istafa which we pronounce Ista-fa (sounds similar to Christopher) but nearly everyone says I-stafa so i sometimes wish we had chosen the spelling Istifa rather than Istafa. I really hope it doesn't bug him when he's older!

I do regret giving him his dad's surname though as me and lo live in the uk and his dad lives in france and it is such a hassle going through borders security since we have different surnames. I wish i had given him mine then changed both our names later when me and oh get married at some point in the future.

Thank you both. I found picking names a bit of a torture because I knew when I had the right ones. when I First heard Rosalie I thought what a perfect name. And it was the same for Ivy but then of course I made the huge mistake of telling my family and they were so not into my choices. sending me other names etc. I got so badly put off Ivy but I just knew I had to use it because It was so her name. Now I am so glad I stuck with them because I am back to loving them. Go with your first instinct on a name I would say :)

Hi, I'm so glad I read this as my family can get very blunt when critiquing my choice of names.
I'm torn between Eleanor / Elenore or Evelyn for a girl but my family make the most awful faces at each suggestion! I'm almost put off Eleanor altogether because of reactions. You're right though - these are my "gut instinct" names and I'll only regret it if I don't choose my fav because of outside opinions.
I don't mind if someone doesn't like them, but they react like I'm intending to call my child Moon Unit or Satchel or something!
Anyway, I wont be sharing my short list with my family anymore!

I went through a stage of really hating Rory's name and finding it boring and wishing I'd chosen something more exciting! But I love it again now and it suits him. Maybe a second, more eccentric middle name would have been good. Going all out this time to make up for it.

I do worry a little that Rory and Felix will be really obviously aged in 20 years because they're kind of trendy now. I hope that that isn't the case. That said I know Rorys of all ages so I guess that's a more classic name. We'll have to see about Felix!

I didn't realize most people spelled Sean "shawn"...but its okay, it is short to spell. I just didn't realize giving him a short, simple, easy to pronounce name, he is still going to have to spell it his whole life! And our surname has to be spelled too, not because its difficult, it is just Whitt and Witt sound the same....

I don't regret my son's one bit, his name is Magnus James. Originally I wanted to name him Michael (DH's name) James but my husband told me no right away. DH turned down every other name until one day I just randomly said, "You'll hate it, but I always loved Magnus James." and he immediately said that was it. It was THE name. It definitely fits my son too, he has a presence, even for an almost-two year old. Had we named him Michael, it just wouldn't have fit.

I've only just twigged (after asking about initials BJ) that my seconds boys initials are VMJ (VJ) possible reference to vijayjay (Essex slang for vagina) :haha:

No regrets, but still.. :haha:

I worry about regretting our son's name, I hope it ages well and doesn't sound too dated in 40 years time. I think Conrad is definitely timeless but Zach sounds like a young man's name to me, despite its long history. But we adore it and are set on it.

its difficult isnt it But yes remember your instinct on the name before people starting giving their opinion on it. for what its worth I think your choices are lovely I particularly love Evelyn I thought about it for a while for my girls :)

My only regret is not simply calling my daughter Belle rather than Bella but it seemed to flow better with Rose as her middle name. I just always refer to her as Belle and hope it sticks. I don't dislike the name at all though.
