Any cake making people?

I'm in the middle of baking a chocolate chip sponge cake and it looks lovely ............i've been following an online recipe but it doesn't say how long it should take but I don't want to open the door to look because I don't want it to dip.

It's been in for 35 mins so far. Help please

They usually cook in about 20-25 mins Dip your knife in the middle, if it comes out clean, then it's done

Oh, dear. I was going to suggest lowering the heat, and then checking on it with a toothpick every 10 minutes.

Keep it on the middle rack, err on the side of caution and keep the heat moderate, and check frequently.

Gas mark 4 for about 20-25 mins. I bought a cake tester from a cook shop for about £1 but a knitting needle works just as well. If it comes out clean then it's cooked all the way through - any sticky residue and it needs a few more minutes xx

If you check too early in the future and it dips turn it upside down to cool and gravity can help even it out.

Or cut the middle out, make a ring cake and fill with cream and fruit or cover wit icing. Icing hides many bumps, burnt and nibbled bits!
