My ob wants me to start provera and metformin first, before trying Clomid but I am scared of the metformin side effects. I was wondering if any of you ladies tried it and got pregnant.

Hi, I am taking metformin (have to loose weight before getting clomid) like you I was worried about the side effects after reading things on forums. However the side effects havent been too bad for me and im taking 1000mgs twice a day (so 2000mg in total) i had stomach cramps and mild diarrhoea the first few days and still sometimes feel slightly nauseous after taking my last dose but its nothing that impacts on my daily life. Since taking them i have had an af (1st one in 6 months) and lost 12lbs in weight so it does work. Hope this helps a little, good luck x

Yes she did say i would lose weight its good if it does that for me too ive been taking 500mg a day and no side effects im hoping when i up the dose its the same

I think she wants me to work my way up to 2000mg a day

The side effects haven't been horrible for me except when I took the generic first (Apotex manufactured). There is a major difference in some of the generics, so you might have to watch that. I got stomach cramps so bad I think they were worse than labor for about 30 minutes. I was about to head to the ER, but they stopped on their own. I had a bit of diarrhea the other day, but that could have been from something I ate as I had been on it awhile. I've gotten some more minor cramps a couple of times, but nothing I would stop taking it for. Good luck.

I was recently prescribed Metformin. They were filled on Wednesday, and I have already been able to work up 1500mg a day (so I take 3 500 mg a day right now) and on Tuesday it will be the final 4 a day (2000 mg) at first I had some stomach issues (diarrhea) but that has only happened twice so far. I have done a lot of research on it, and once you get passed the probability of having diarrhea, the benefits (higher chance of a baby:happydance:) far outweigh the side effects.

Hope this helps :hugs:

I have been on Metformin for a while...off and on, i'm never good about taking meds--but the last few months I decided to REALLY get down to it and took them on schedule. At first, they made me SO sick--diarrhea and upset stomach for the first week or so. I had to miss an interview because of it.

I still wasn't having a period (5 months later), so I took Provera. I was really skeptical about it...but I took it on schedule and didn't miss a dose. And, four days later, I got my period! I can't believe I'm so excited about this...

But today is my first day, and I'm feeling back pain and cramps and I'm so happy! lolol

I'm starting my clomid in in 2 days, as well as EPO, Royal Jelly, my regular prenatal, and several other PRESCRIBED supplements.

Good luck to you!
