I'm TTC #1 & have had migraines for years- they get pretty bad at times & I could be stuck in bed or worse make a trip to the ER with severe pain, dehydration & vomiting if my prescriptions don't work. Immitrex is the only thing that really helps.

Anyone else had any luck with migraine prevention/treatment through pregnancy?

Did want to R&R but I to suffer from pretty bad migraines, I am not on any prescriptions...yet. But all i can suggest is to ask your doctor, if continuing the medication will effect your chances of conceiving and if so is there anything else you could try that will lessen the chance of not conceiving.

My doctor told me it's ok to take an occasional triptan while we are trying. It really saved me. Otherwise I can have a whole day migraine that sometimes goes into a next day. Ask your doctor what's ok for you. Good luck!

well the thing is I did talk with my nurse practitioner when I had my IUD taken out & they didn't give me much information. Just that Imitrex is one of those drugs that 'the benefits outweight the risks.' This week I've had to take 3 & am pushing having to take a second one today!

I was just hoping to see what success other migraine suffer's have had during pregnancy. Mine get pretty bad if I don't take a pill soon enough.

Hi!
I'm a migraine sufferer too. How are things with using imitrex?

Thankful for any info!

I am also a migraine sufferer. I used to take 50mg a day of Topamax but before we started TTC I researched it and you are not suppose to take it while pregnant cause it will cause birth defects. Before I started taking this I would have a headache every single day and would have horrible migraines where I would be in bed all day or like yourself, end up in the ER.

I went back to my neurologist and talked to him about it and he agreed so he took me off of it. One thing we just tried this month is Botox injections - and no not for cosmetic reasons.

I got 20 needles in my head in different places (forehead, templaes, back of my head and neck). What it does it is numbs the nerves. I got them almost 2 weeks ago and haven't had a headache/migraine since. *knocks on wood*

A friend of mine also gets the Botox injections and they work wonders for her.

Might be something worth looking into

I am a migraine sufferer big time! I used to take Imitrex, but it did nothing for me. I am not one to want to take meds all the time and just try to tough it out. I have been given all kinds of things ranging from muscle relaxers to hydrocodone and nothing seems to help! I have had multiple cat scans and nobody has ever had an answer and my brother is the same way. Sorry I'm not much help, but it's always good to know when other people feel your pain as well!

A lady I work with receives Botox injections every 3 months and they sometimes help and sometimes don't?

Glad to hear I'm not the only one! Imitrex usually works for me if I take it in time. I'm starting to understand my body more & I'm finding out that I get most of my migraines around when I don't eat a healthy meal (like if I miss lunch) or hydrate myself enough, or on super stressful days (as well as AF).

I just got a BFP & I am SOOOOO worried about taking Imitrex while pregnant. It scares me, I hate taking medicine as well & know I will just try to tough it out but thats usually when an ER trip follows. :(

I would love to try a safe preventative method. My area just recently got a headache specialist & I've been meaning to make an appointment with her- not sure how much she can do now that I'm pregnant though.

I have migraines too. I actually got pregnant with my first in the middle of a massive migraine! OH was horny, hahaha. I got a few migraines whilst pregnant, but since having my baby I've had less. I still get them occasionally, but not as many as before.

I thought you weren't supposed to take triptans whilst pregnant? I would just have a strong coffee whilst preggo to keep me going, caffeine helps many people with migraines.

My dr told me you absolutely cannot take triptans while pregnant.. To the point that im only ttc and they wont even prescribe them.. It can affect blood flow to the uterus.

Im not sure if botox is ok while pregnant but i have two friends that have them regularly and its the only thing that gets them through the day. They arent covered with health care at least i dont believe they are yet

My neurologist wasn't sure how the botox would effect me during pregnancy but he said it would be the best. I have stopped taking my Topamax 3 weeks ago when I got the Botox and knock on wood *knock knock* I haven't had a migraine since.

Mine is covered under my health plan here in Canada, but only 80% so I end up paying $156 out of pocket but if it is going to work I will pay that ever 3 months so I can have a baby, it's worth it to me

What my Doc has told me & the research I've done with triptans is that they are a class C which means there has really been no research on them so there really isn't a way to know if they would be harmful to the fetus & that the benefits outweigh any risks. I've been drinking a small cup of coffee in the mornings & so far, no migraine yet this pregnancy!!!
