Are any of you ladies like me and feel like an old cripple due to sciatica? I'm in agony and can barely walk anywhere without my thigh buckling from under me. The only way I can ease is it to drop to my knees which is ok when I am at home but can't exactly do that when i am out and about.

Any tips on how I can ease it I see my m/w on Thursday so going to ask her if theres anything that can help to ease it as I can't see me being able to do the school run when my dd goes back and df is at work. It hasn't been so bad so never bothered with it but this past week or so its pure hell!

I'm going to be crawling on my hands and knees for the rest of this pregnancy now :haha: x

codeine... its my lifesaver xx

I've had sciattica for a couple of years and had physio on it. the midwives have referred me again to a maternity physio to sort it so hopefully yours will too. I've taken to sleeping in an armchair with my feet up just so I can get some sleep cos I cant sleep on my side without being in agony (i got told off by the midwife for this but sod it at least i can get some sleep this way!)

My physio (a pain specialist!?!) told me to drink lots of water and reguarly rub my leg (front and back) in long straight motions down past my knees as this will rehydrate the muscle in your leg, took quite a long time (bout 6-8months) of this "rubbing" to dull the pain so I'm hoping the midwife physio has something better & quicker to suggest.

I would say pain killers, lots of water and keep mobile as much as possible. Mine was less painful if I kept moving around, sit when you need to I'd get horrid spasms down my leg and need to sit down but just take it slow and keep moving staying sat in one place only makes it more painful when you get up again.

Good luck with midwife!

I only get the pain whilst walking about if I sit down it goes straightaway. I'm currently having to do housework bit by bit now as its so painful I need to sit and have a rest before getting back up to do it.

I don't really fancy taking painkillers to ease the pain as I've tried to avoid them throughout this pregnancy but hopefully can get reffered to a physio. Roll on the 27th when I have a stretch and sweep done and I find out the date for my induction. x

I suffer from it and put a warm hot water bottle at the bottom of my back and it gets rid of the pain x

I started suffering from it since i was about 20 weeks pregnant :( I hate it and nothing eases it for me, and i totally understand what you mean about just dropping to your knees, thats what i do aswell :haha:

ive only started having it in the last wk really, and i feel like i cant walk at times cos of the pain. I had it alot earlier thru my 2nd pregnancy but it eased off. Thought id got away with it this time but no such luck.
I kno how painful it is x

Im sure I had this when i was in 2nd Tri but never went to doctors even though I was in agony all the time. But after about 2months it kinda just went away but got replaced with backache and heaviness lol x

I started getting it at about 10 weeks preg, it went away fro about 16-24 weeks and is now back with a vengeance!

I find yoga exercises help, I see a osteo and take panadol if it gets really bad.

I have had it with all my pregnancies. It got REALLY bad (I actually could hardly walk and my stairs became impossible) a couple weeks ago after I had done a bit too much work around the house on the nursery, etc. It let up some after I had to completely take it easy for a week and has been better (just a dull ache lately). I have found it flares up if I lift anything (especially if it requires me bending over or bending my knees).

I am just really hoping that it doesn't get as bad as it did a couple weeks ago, or I'll be in a wheelchair by 9 months!

Try some lunges. I have intermittent sciatica from a slipped disc and lunges helps to release the pinched nerve.

Sorry to hear theres a few of us suffering with this. I never had it with the girls and definately know without a doubt this is my last pregnancy because I am in far too much pain when I walk.

Thanks for the tip on lunges but I think if I tried doing them I'd lose my balance and topple over lol.x

I was diagnosed with it at 4months, doctor told me we can get it throughout our pregnancy and it can go afterwards but sometimes it may stay with you so fingers crossed were ok afterwards, sometimes i feel like i want to lie flat on the floor but find it makes itworse an even brings it on, havnt triedthe hot water bottle yet so will be trying it, dont like taking painkillers if i can hlp it but docgave me some co praxomol, my main pain relief is to get partner to massage area, applying pressure eases the pain, it just a shame we cant lie on our belly and rly get into it ha ha
