Any thoughts?

Ok, so here is a bit of background: I don't temp, chart, or use opks. I do have a regular 28-30 day cycle and I am very in tune with my body and notice subtle changes (e.g., even though I don't necessarily record it, I monitor CM). I usually ovulate around CD 9-11 based on CM and o pain which is subtle but noticeable. We have been TTC/NTNP since March 2013.

So, here's the situation: AF was due around May 31-June 2 but didn't arrive until June 6. This period was weird meaning that it only lasted three days (6-7 is typical) and the flow wasn't as heavy as typical. I did take a cheapy hpt on June 3 and it was BFN. I didn't think a whole lot of it because I just figured that we all have a weird cycle every now and again. So fast forward to yesterday (June 10) and I notice a lot of EWCM. Even though I knew it was way too early for o we baby danced anyway. Then sometime in the middle of the night I woke up with o pain on my right side (when I o on the right side there is always searing pain for a couple of minutes and then mild cramping for a few hours, left side is just the mild cramping). We dtd again this afternoon just in case.

So I guess I would like your thoughts/reassurance that I'm not a freak of nature....is ovulating on CD 5/6 normal/abnormal? Does anyone else o this early? Does this help/hurt our chances of concieving? I'm just really confused by my body right now. I'm not frustrated with TTC-we're taking a really casual approach for the first 6 months-I'm just frustrated that my cycles have been like clockwork my entire life, and now that we're TTC they get weird.

I don't have answers but I feel your pain. I had a super light period this month and was like, "It's probably because I'm secretly pregnant!" That's always where my mind goes when anything unusual happens.

Also high fives for trying not to temp and taking things easy! I have an iPhone app where I put in my period every month and it tells me the week I'm fertile and we just try to DtD a bunch that week if my CM agrees with my app.

I do have this to say about your problem: Completely random ovulation times are why high school sex-ed classes say you can get pregnant at any time in your cycle. So maybe it's just a weird month.

Thanks for your reply! I've thought about using an iPhone app, but haven't given in and downloaded one yet because I have a nephew who loves to play with my phone and I don't want him to stumble across it and ask questions. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to hide from a six year-old though. I do keep an old school paper calendar though. I did sort of think that maybe the light period meant I was pregnant too, but in the end I decided that while AF was lighter then normal, it was still to heavy to be pregnant.

It's so funny that you mentioned high school health. I've been reading a book (The Impatient Woman's Guide to Getting Pregnant) and my husband was making fun of me for it. He told me that he could sum the book up in one sentence- "have more sex." I laughed and told him that he had a 9th grade health understanding of getting pregnant and that it wasn't so much about the quantity of sex, but more about the timing of it.

Hopefully, if the pain was o pain (and I can't imagine that it was anything else), we dtd enough to give us a chance.

Do you like that book? I tried to get the sample on my kindle but it only gave me the table of contents so I'm hesitating to purchase it. That said, impatient definitely describes me :)

I actually did like it a lot. It was very research based but without being dry or boring. I really like that the author used these strategies herself and shares personal anecdotes, but that she is also a Ph.D. researcher who actually scoured research journals and what she writes in the book is "research based". She gave a lot of good suggestions about things that I should be doing (e.g., the types of vitamins that I should be taking). If you're a beginner to this whole TTC thing like I am it is worth the $7.99 (at least that is what it was on iBooks).
