So a couple weeks ago I noticed some red bumps under my boobs and on my sides. So I switched body wash. Over the past week and a half it has gotten progressively worse. I have these little red bumps everywhere! Under my boobs, on my side's, under my belly, down my thighs, all over my arms and even on my butt cheeks. They itch so bad I feel like my skin might rip apart. I looked it up and I believe it might be a PUPPP rash. I see my doctor on thursday, but what can I do before then?

Yes, I had it with my son (tends to occur more when carrying a male baby) and it drove me up the wall! I found refrigerated calamine lotion help to cool the area and soothe the itching so try that. Also, you might want to give your midwife a call, there is a more serious condition that causes a rash and severe itching involving liver enzymes so they might want to blood test you to rule this out.
Good luck with the itching, I feel for you, it's awful x

Try a warm oatmeal bath. If that doesn't help I would take some benadryl before bed.

Benadryl helped me sleep. A double dose of zyrtec each day helped control the itching. I eventually needed both oral and topical steroids to get mine under control because it was awful. Until you see a doctor and get approval for meds, try to stick to things like cool showers, gold bond lotion, etc.

I had it about a couple weeks before I gave birth to my son. It was terrible. From what i've read, it usually happens when you're carrying a boy, in the 3rd trimester, and around where stretchmarks are forming. It usually only lasts until a couple days after giving birth. This was all true with me.

I tried calamine lotion, cocoa butter, steroid creams, not using soaps... Those didn't help. The only thing that made it bearable was keeping my skin cool and using ice packs on the rash. I don't think I tried benadryl.

I really feel for you because if you actually have this it's pretty uncomfortable. Mention it to your doctor. Good luck!

Thanks! I've taken benadryl but as soon as it wears off, I'm clawing myself again. I also tried the benadryl cream but it just dried and flaked off. Hopefully I will get something on Thursday. It does get worse when its hot and I'm sweaty or after a hot shower. I can't put lotion on, it burns. I hope I can get some meds soon.

I had it with my second son last year, but not until a few days AFTER he was born, which is more uncommon I think. And yes, it's often affects women carrying big boys (my son was 10lb). My tummy (where it started on my stretchmarks) and legs from ankle to hips were covered in what can only be described as hives. They were massive red bumpy patches. It was awful. But...... I found a miracle soap. I think you can only really buy it in line, but it's called pine tar soap. It smells like forests/bonfires and is quite drying, but oh my god did it work. It had all but cleared up in 3/4 days. I just used it as often as I could, rubbing it on with a flannel, leaving it for a min, then rinsing off, prob about 4/5 times a day.

As another poster said, best to make sure it's nothing else, but if it is PUPP, do try the soap

Xx

Thank you! I'll check that out after I find out. That scares me, I'm measuring 5 weeks ahead. I'm dreading having a humongous baby lol. I'm only 5'1 but my fiance is almost 6'1.

I wonder if it has to do with testosterone since it occurs with male babies.

I suffered terribly with it when pregnant with my daughter, apparantley only 1% of people having girl get it. Pine tar soap was a life saver. Antihistamines, steroids and everything else prescribed did nothing for mine. Doctor said its an immune reaction, something to do with baby cells getting into your system and then your immune system attacking them. Made me miserable from 30 weeks but went away the minute she was born. Definitely pine tar soap, you can get it from amazon and its worth the money. Xx

Hmmm, I am wondering if this is what I have, too. I have extremely itchy random bumps, mostly on my abdomen, around my bellybutton, my sides, butt cheeks, and my thighs. They look like flea bites, but there aren't any animals in this apartment and my bf isn't suffering. They do seem to get worse with heat and worse at night. I haven't called my doctor about it because I'm out of state for 3 more weeks and I didn't think it was a serious enough issue to go to the ER.

Please tell me, is this what yours look like? Do your itchy bumps come up in clusters & groups like a poison ivy rash, or just random, single spots like mine?

October2013- If it's those few bumps I see, then I don't think that's PUPPP. Yours look like little pimples, ingrown hairs, bug bites... But I don't know.

PUPPP has more of a heat rash look, almost like the top layer of skin is a little swollen, bumpy and red.

Oh and did I mention it makes you want to scratch the top layer of skin off with a cheese grater?

Yeah it doesn't look like that at all...But the itch is INTENSE. And of course scratching makes it look worse.

I'm NOT a doctor, but I found relief from P.U.P.P. rash.

What didn't work---- Rash cream from the doctor, hydrocordizone cream, allergy meds, Grandpa's pine tar soap, Apple Cider Vinegar (PLEASE do not try this!!! OUCH OUCH!!! I had to sit on the couch with an icepack- burned my skin!!! Very flippin painful, even diluted with plenty of water- made my rash worse. Say NO to Apple Cider Vinegar!!!)

What worked!--- :flower:
Drinking v8 juice!!!!! Completely CURED my rash! -It's gone :)
Also, Peppermint oil mixed with olive oil (50/50) - very cooling effect, do not apply full strength peppermint oil- OUCH!!! Ahhhhhh!

I hope this helps SOMEONE :)
