I am Rhesus negatvie o negative I have to have the anti D injection on 20th October, is anybody else having this or had experience of having it Ive heard it is a big needle but I dont know if they are just scaring me ha x

Hi. I'm A negative so I have to have this done too, although I don't have an appointment for it yet. I was told it would be quite a big needle, but wasn't sure if they were scaring me or not. I'm sure in comparison to giving birth it really won't hurt that much! :haha:

Its not a big needle!!! I'm A- and had to have for all of my pregnancies...Its to protect the next child you have :) The only thing i hate about it is that its intramuscular. Bloody hurts especially in the arm! Go the bum or thigh

hey im o neg!!

I had to have the anti d at 17wks due to a little bleed. Im scared of needles too. . . The nurse was great though she literally hid the needle from and i didnt see it at all. It doesnt hurt going in but what i would say is the midwife told me to sit down for 5mins after which i did but then on leaving the clinic i almost fainted and luckly someone helped and brought me back round. . so i would say if you feel a little funny after sit down for say 20mins to check u feel 100%! Also i would say for a hour after i felt really light headed and dizzy but this could of been due to me being so scared about the needle, than the actually injection its self! Try not too worry im sure u'l be fine hun and just think its for the baby!! x x x

Aww so a couple of you ladies had it done then - I am so so scared of needles literally when I have blood taken I have two nurses there one talking to me and holding my other hand whilst the other gets the needle out etc and goes in with it. Good gosh I hate it!!! Can they numb the area atall? where in the arm does it go top or bottom ? x

Top where there's more muscle...

Having a negative blood group doesn't affect your first pregnancy but can affect subsequent if u don't have anti d.

I have to get it on 27th October and I'm peeing myself about it! But my sister had to get it last year when she was pregnant and she said it's fine. She actually had to get it more than once as she fell at 6 months pregnant when we had the bad snow. I also hate needles... but I'm thinking if I need to go through labour I can have an injection! Lol

Oh dear, scared to death I am such a BABY myself!! x

I had this at 13 weeks when I had bleeding. It was given in the top of my left arm, I thought it was a bloody big needle at the time :haha:. But it's over and done with so quickly. It does sting a little bit, so I'm not particularly looking forward to the next one at 28 weeks, but it's for a good reason. Hope you're okay when you have yours :hugs:, I find pinching my opposite wrist at the same time as it goes in is a good distraction. Or punching DF if he's within reach instead :ninja:.
xx

Im o negative as well and have to have anti d injections!not too bothered about it though tbh just something we've gotta do in order to have these precious lil babies plus im sure labour willl be a thousand times worse than that and an injection will b over in seconds :) dont worry too much hun

Ha ha miss divine love it!! Yeah i think i will bite my arm or a pillow or something but oh my the pain of labour - cmon girl pull myself together its a needle (oh look at brave old me) be a diff story on the day ha! x

I'm O neg and have to have it at 28 weeks, I really hate needles but anything to keep my little guy safe :flower:

I will be getting it some point this month (October), my sister has had them and hasn't said anything about them hurting and she's had them 4 times. xx I am sure it isn't too bad, plus it's worth it.

I have a phobia of needles too so not looking forward to it, will be a nervous wreck on the day :( xxx

I'm due for another injection soon, i had my first at 6 weeks because of spotting. the nurse told me to brace myself because it hurts. I don't like needles much, and it was pretty big so i was squeezing the other nurses hand so hard. About 5 secs later it was over and i felt a tiny pinch that was it, no pain. I had it in my top arm, drawing blood is more painful than that injection to me, nothing to worry about in my opinion.

I had my first anti d a few weeks ago as has a bit of bleeding, the flipping midwife didn't do me any favours kept apologising beforehand as it's 'not a very nice one I'm afraid' !! And 'it's a huge needle!' silly cow lol I'm not afraid of needles but it did look pretty scary. Had it in my right shoulder just looked the other way, felt like a dull ache down my arm but HONESTLY wasn't that bad! I have to self inject with blood thinners every night and they hurt much more xxx

I don't know anybody who LIKES needles LOL

I hope everything turns out ok!! xo

I had as well due to cervical bleed at 14wks; the nurse hid the needle from me as I told her I am very needle-phobic, but she did it in the bum and it was sore for a day or two, but nothing too bad.

best wishes

O- so I've had it twice before once at 28 weeks with my first pregnancy and then at about 12 weeks with this one due to some bleeding, of course will have another at 28 weeks. I didn't find the needle to be larger than others i've seen but the fluid does sting when they inject it, its not terrible just a slight burning sensation for about 3 second and that's it its over, area wasn't even sore after. Oh i've had it both in the bum and the arm and didn't find a difference in the amt of pain.
