Our son dropped his "Sophie le Giraffe" in a muddy puddle full of frog spawn while we were hiking yesterday, so it defo needs to be cleaned! Reckon I can put it in the steam-steriliser?

If you worried you could put in boiling water for 5-10 mins? it does the same thing in making it sterile? that way you could keep a eye on its wellbeing!

I would go for boiling water or even cold water sterilisation - better than risking the steam steriliser!

I would be worried about liquid getting in the squeak-hole though - make sure it is fully dry afterwards so bacteria doesn't breed in there!

To be honest, if they weren't so expensive, I would even be tempted to replace it altogether...

Just get Milton tablets & sterilise it with it after cold washing it :)

The instructions that I got with my Sophie say not to steam sterilise it :)

I'd wash it thoroughly in anti-bacterial washing up liquid and hot water, and then cold water sterilise it :)

Just to update you all ... this is what the manufacturer of Sophie said after I emailed them today:

>>>Yuk! I think that's the worst thing that has happened to Sophie so far...

Ok, she can't go in the steam steriliser, the rubber can't handle it. Don't immerse her as the squeaker goes.

Best bet is to wipe her down with a damp cloth and get all the much off, then spray Milton or other sterlising liquid onto a cloth and wipe over again. As long as she's not totally dunked in water the squeaker is ok, so wiping is best.

I hope you get her back to her former glory!!!<<<

Yah, I use santizing wipes on Sophie all the time - then wipe that off with a damp cloth.

I hate it when they may chew toys that are hard to clean!!! ARGH!

I had the same thing happen to Champingnon! (the mushroom toy by the same company). I washed him off as best I could then used sterilizing wipes on it. It is the most I have cleaned anything LOL... But I don't sterilize everything LO touches - only if it falls somewhere nasty. If it is just on the floor, I will wash normally.

xx

So ... I told OH what the Sophie people had said in their email, but in the meantime he'd already put her through a steaming cycle! Sophie is now OK on the outside, but her squeaker has almost stopped squeaking

Oh no!! Silly OH. Leave her somewhere warm to dry out for a while, it might start working again :hugs: I have a top for LO that has a squeaker in it, and that always takes a while to start sqeaking properly again after I wash it :)
