Anyone been on or currently on metformin?!

Hi Ladies,

I know most of you are on the next level or fertility tretment such as clomid etc. but just wondered if those who have been on metformin could share your stories please I started takin it over a month ago and have had no signs of period coming yet and tests are BFN. How long did it take for you to have a period if you was irregular before etc? Could really do with some good stories of how and if metformin made a difference to you!! Please help me

I was just going to post about metformin. I was on it almost 8 years ago but didnt notice a difference and I was on BC pills at the time. I took it for about 6 months and stopped taking it because I was pretty much just hoping to lose weight with it. It didnt bother me at all, but I didnt lose any weight or have lighter periods. My GYN said the pill was fine to manage PCOS at the time.

My GYN put me on again almost a year ago when I stopped taking my BC. I was just finishing nursing school so I took it for a couple weeks and was still getting awful GI upset with it. I was literally running to bathroom within 10 minutes of eating, even light healthy meals. Those symptoms are supposed to go away within a couple weeks....I have tried 3 times altogether for a few weeks each and I never even bumped up to the 1000mg/day because I had such awful symptoms. I was reading last night 25% of patients cannot tolerate it. The XR formula is supposed to be better for managing symptoms, not sure which one the prescribed you.

I was hoping some other woman would have some encouragement with their BFP after the metformin. I am thinking about starting it again because I know that is exactly what he is going to tell me to do if I go see him.....

Sorry my story isnt good or encouraging! Have you started taking it yet? I am hoping some other girls will come post their positive outcomes!!

Hi Thanks for reply!! I started taking it at the end of July, and can quite gladly say that it only made me feel rubbish for the first couple of weeks!! He put me on 250mg daily for 2 weeks to allow my body to get used to it then said to bump it up to 500mg daily. Seeing everyone elses posts it seems that 500mg is quite low. Maybe this is why nothing has happened for me yet!? what dose did you start on? x

my re had me on metformin for PCOS and BC pills to use the withdraw bleed as my cycle to start my stims however I am to remain on metformin until my ob pulls me off. with this I received a BFP and my first beta was 326 second one 750.. I hope this helps

I was on 500mg for 1 week then 1000mg after that. I have read the "optimum" dose for PCOS is 500 mg 3 times a day.

HI, I was on 850mg slow release Metformin, twice a day during my 3rd ICSI. Hi had mild PCOS, was at ideal weight. However, my LH (hormones) was too high. The metformin was to regulate my insulin levels and hence my LH levels.

Coupled with that and a very wonderful doctor (different from 1st and 2nd ICSI), I got my bfp.

Before I started Clomid I was on Metformin for 3 months. It did nothing for me at all on it's own. I am on 1500mg a day of Extended Release version. So far never had a problem with it!

iv just been precribed this, im hoping it will help me. only been told today about my PCOS very emotional right now...

i was lucky to have my 2 children and thank god so much i was able to be blessed to have my daughter and son. im trying for my third child but it seems this time it will be a hard journey for me but im determined to have my 3rd baby.

What dose have you been prescribed Emz?? Finges crossed it does the trick for you and you soon have a baby brother or sister for your little ones

found out last week i have PCOS and have too been put on metformin, currently on my second week of it 500mg for one week now up to 2 tabs a day 1000mg! up to 3 a day next week which in 1500mg!

having bad bloated like cramps and a dodgy tummy at the mo! no success story as of yet but gotta give it a go as gynae refused to give me clomid till i have had a few mths of met xx

I start today my FS is very hopeful this is going to work for me! I'm going to start a low gi diet as well, I've been told that will help stabilize any insulin spikes.

same here as most i have only been on it for about 3 months now but i was supposed to take it 500 3x daily but im at 500 1x daily. i was on 2x but was not so nice for vaction so i quit and restarted............


at first i tried it for 3 weeks on a 100 day +cycle so i was givin provera.started off fresh and took 1-2 pills of metformin and also took soy isos from cd 3-7...i started a new cycle on my own a 38 day cycle. that was great compaired to my past 100 + or 55+ cycles....

now im on cycle 3 since the metformin and i think i just o'd about 4 days ago althoguh im not temping i will be if theres a next cycle.

monday i will be bumping the met back up to 2 pills a day

The side effects are hitting me really hard now! I'm a total write off today. I'm hoping I'll be fine in a few days. I'm moving tomorrow and I've hardly packed! Though most of our things are in storage.

i have pcos too was diagnosed in july and i was so low and thought it was the end of the world while im ttc its just another obsticle in the way and such an emotional rollercoaster but its nice to read that some have bfps from taking metformin..

the side effects arent great ive been on met for 6/7 wks now 1500mg daily and touch wood the side effects have virtulay gone and ive lost a stone so far... have my bloods done tomo at 8dpo ( couldnt today due to work) so im hoping that ive ov and also hoping my lh level has come down abit too..

its so lovely to have other ladies to chat to in the same situation as ourselves else i no id gne mad by now...........
