I read a thread some time ago about diets with loads of fruit and veg, loads of water, high protein shakes etc and just wondered if anyone has done any of this or can recommend anything extra for an ivf virgin???

Hi glitter,
With my first round of IVF I did the lot..
- Acupuncture
- Organic food (or at least some organic, I did a bit of a mix)
- Gave up coffee, and wine for the whole IVF period (ie starting at down reg)
- Loaded up on water, fruit and veg
I did get pg, but only very briefly. So maybe it helped, maybe not - it did make me feel good, and like I was doing something, which can't be a bad thing.
As far as the studies go, there are two things that are statistically shown to make a difference and those are acupuncture and eliminating caffeine.
I just did my transfer for IVF #2 yesterday however and I did NONE of those things this time! Didn't bother stop drinking wine or coffee until yesterday, no acupuncture, not changing diet especially. I will report back in 13 days and tell you whether it made a difference or not! :)
Good luck!!

hey
I am doing most of that plus I have regulr accupuncture and am having it after et. all the best for a sticky bean babe I really hope you get a positive result xx

The big difference I did with attempt #3 compared to before:

1. Stopped all work and business a week before Egg Collection. I tried to achieve minimal stress for the duration of the cycle and the 2WW. It's so important, I can't emphasize it enough that stress is a big factor in fertility.

2. Drank lots of water.

3. Slept about 12 to 15 hours per day from EC onwards.

4. Do not move much, just lay back and relax.

5. Ate my prenatal vitamins and folic acid from a month before EC, religiously.

6. Pray a lot.

Wishing you be blessed with a sticky bean :)

huge congrats on your bfp!! i am travelling for ivf so will effectively be on hols during the whole process so you have made my day!! I read about drinking lots of milk but I reckon thats for protein so I will prob just eat more protein rich foods as I think I am a bit intolerant of to much milk digestively speaking!!

Oooh do enjoy your holiday! I treated my 3rd ICSI like a little holiday at home too. Remember, don't think of work or anything that would stress you. Forget about daily schedules, forget about any to-do lists.

As for milk, if you're lactose intolerant, then better stay away from it. Last thing you want is to have constant diarrhea after your egg transfer.

Have a wonderful holiday!

Oh... and my head nurse said.. no papayas, no bananas, no watermelon and no pineapple in the 2WW. Been shown that these fruits have a high content of certain chemicals that cause the uterus to contract. I stayed away from these fruits during 2WW as my little bean needed ANY help it could get.

Wow.....so what fruits can you eat?

Other fruits are ok. There were the only 4 they told me to stay away for 2 weeks. I was so dead tired after the EC and ET that the 2 weeks flew by so fast. Didn't miss anything.
