Anyone else actually looking forward to the budget thingy tomorrow?

I never got a grant or anything.
And i agree money that u get as a grant for baby things shouldnt be spent on TVs etc, it should go towards what it is meant.

I was more upset by the "they dont earn it or work for it" part.

If it was meant to be towards what u have explained then i will apologise by all means, but the way it was written didnt make it sound that way to me, hence my reply to it.

Unless you'd spend it on holidays and new TVs for yourself you shouldn't be offended. I'm talking about the people who use it for nonbaby stuff. It irks me and quite rightly so.

Like i just said, i never recieved a grant of any kind when i was pregant.
And please dont tell me what should or shouldnt offend me.
Ive already explained that what miffed me about your post was the way u worded people not earning it or working for it, as everyone is individual with individual needs etc.,

Well you don't hun  You work hard for the money you get from your boss. If you need them you get benefits whether youve worked before or not. benefits aren't like a wage.

:dohh: well sorry if you felt/feel offended, but thats the what i think. When people give opinions on matters like this they base them on very general cases. There will always be exceptions of course.

Yes i can see where you are coming from.

But when u say its your money etc that pays my benefits it does get my back up, as when i worked full time i paid taxes as taxes, they were my contribution to the "system"...i didnt see it as me "paying" someone.

You'd have to pay your taxes regardless of how many people were on benefits.

but why does it matter to you what i spend my money on

Honestly, I think you are just looking for someone to bicker with as I have said quite clearly why I am asking. I am asking whether we have gone too far as a society with consumerism, the must have it being the most important thing. You quoted how much you spent and I said that I could never have imagined spending that.

The why does it matter to you attitude could be applied to anyone. Why do people feel that they have the right to question how people spend their HIP then or their benefits? Their money their choices?

Difference is the HIP grant and SSMG isn't my money...

Tbh i don't care about consumerism etc, and i don't care what other people do with their money - it's up to them and me what they do with their money, as long as it's theirs to spend.

If they are my benefits, then it is my money and noone else's as far as i'm concerned though. Just because people who work pay taxes does not dictate that they can tell me what is appropriate for me to spend my money on - not having a go at you hun just your comment stood out and Ive only browsed past few pages whilst feeding adam..

I dont really understand why this has turned into a benefits debate again (well sort of)... noone will ever agree and noone knows enough about other people's situations to understand fully everyone's POV iykwim (abbreviations gone mad  lol)

Lets just all be friends and agree to disagree lol :flower:

I disagree that it is your money, it's money being lent to you from people that work to help you get by. I don't care what you spend your money on though - thats still up to you x

I dont want to argue with anyone, im just voicing my point of view. :)

I know we were doing well with the non debating ;)! Hahaaa, this thread may have been a time bomb though! xx

I relied solely on benefits and i claimed everything i could get at one point, but i managed to turn my life around and now i don't claim anything (except the HIP :haha:) - so i do know how it feels to be on the other side of the fence xxx

It may be lent (as in when I next work I will return the taxes) but its still mine - I dont get benefits btw but have done in the past and this attitude towards people receiving them is a little offensive. IMO.

Like Elli21 said, you pay towards the system not to individuals. A system which everyone reaps rewards from due to free healthcare etc..

You'd be paying them regardless

A number of my family members claim benefits, and it saddens me to say that they do have a really poor attitude when it comes to 'getting what they can' from the government. It does my head in and I hate it :nope:! Two of my very immediate family are on JSA and it's sad. They moan about the amount of money they get, but i've told them time and time again JSA is NOT there to make life comfortable for you. xx

As i said, i had relied solely on benefits for quite a while - so i do know this system very well. I know we don't pay towards actual people, we all pay into it as a whole. The money goes round and round, back in people's pockets out of it etc, i do understand that Element.

We are very lucky to have this system - it saved my life :D

Do you know whats peed me off the most about this new budget, there's nothing there or being put in place to stop the lazy benefit scroungers who have no reason not to work! That doesn't include single parents or the ill but the ones who claim JSA as a job!

I know, its crazy? Or are they still working on this?

God knows but it seems they are the only people who don't loose out on anything even though they are a burden on society! Obviously the ones who are on JSA and work their backsides off looking and applying for jobs don't fall into that category!

there is a big clamp down at teh moment and people are being pushed into work, if you dont apply for jobs then a case worker does it for you and if you dont take the job you lose your benefits

People on JSA should work to earn their benefits IMO. Community work like gritting the roads in winter, and cutting grass in summer.. stuff like that that doesn't require you to have any specific skills. Might make people get up and go who are happy to sit and do SFA at the moment. They'd be out of the house 'working' anyway so they may as well get a proper job, eh?

Im on jsa, i have been for 2 weeks and i am spending my time trying to find work not sitting there doing sfa. I dont see why i should grit the roads, i have paid tax and a high rate for the last 10 years and now i need some help while i find a job that is suitable for me i see no problem in that

This must be take everything blah says the wrong way day or something.
