Anyone else actually looking forward to the budget thingy tomorrow?

PP people on 40-50k get their tax credits reduced and those on 50+ get theirs taken away. People under 40k get theirs increased. its like taking from the 'rich' and giving to the 'poor'.

Yeah if you count £50,000 rich

You understood what i meant  thanks!!

It is all swings and roundabouts in the public/ private sector thing. When you work in the public sector most people have a really good pension. This is generally not the case in the private sector. I pay a contribution to my pension but it is a very good one. DH has a far inferior pension in the private sector. While this does not mean much to most of us now, it will once we reach pensionable age. On the other hand he gets a bonus/ profit related pay and the like. However, he has worked hard to get there so he is entitled to it as far as I am concerned. Many private sector workers don't get those perks either.

Many bankers and accountants, along with many other private sector workers work really hard and deserve the salaries they earn. They are just an easy whipping boy.

yeah winegums, peoples sense of entitlement does my head in a bit.

Bluebaby, are you majorly over the threshold? Would it be a viable option for you to reduce your working hours enough for you to fall under the threshold, thus being entitled to help again?

well it certainly ain't poverty

That your opinion but certainly not mine.

hold on wait... you live in poverty? with your £50,000?

and i class my self as 'doing ok' on just over £12,000?

surely your TC wrent that much anyway when you're on 50k? are you set to lose a lot?

If you're used to earning 50k your outgoings reflect that. You probably have a bigger house in a nicer area so your mortgage is higher. You live within your means.

I never said I lived in poverty.. can you point to where I said that. My hubby and I just get by on our wages. The amount we earn is just average where we live and we have the bills to match. We should still be entitled to tax credits like everyone else.

:dohh:

I think some people need to reassess....live with your means! if u are struggling on £50K change something. We sure made changes and cut backs in the past year and we ear about £27 between the two of us and i consider us doing 'ok'

I cannot imagine that with earnings of over £50,000 you are entitled to many benefits at all. I know when I looked into it with my OH's wage (which is no-where near that) we were only entitled to £545 a year.

If you take in to account the new tax bands, you will be £1000 better off (as the first £7400 will be tax free as opposed to the previous£6400), which I would imagine will cover any loss of benefits. Of course I could be wrong!

i would say anyone earning between £40k and £50k will be no worse off becasue they couldn't have got many benefits but will get the £1000 extra in tax relief.

Its that extra bit of help that we didn't have before. Every little bit helps if you know what i mean and it is significant enough that i would notice it when it is gone.
