Anyone else actually looking forward to the budget thingy tomorrow?

Ive scanned some comments and I have to disagree that public secotr workers have it worse - I've worked for the council before and it was ace compared to the private sector! We got proper lunch hours, breaks, TOIL. Now I work 8:30-5pm, with 30 mins for lunch(nearest shop is a 30 mins walk, there and back) We dont get overtime, and they hate us taking our holidays - and if we dont we dont get paid for them or allowed to carry days over. I havent h ad a pay rise in 3 years, and in fact we are always waiting for them to start redundancies again.

It is good that we will get a higher tax allowance, however with the VAT rise it will not make us better off, as what they are giving with one hand, they are taking with the other - so its basically going to be the same.

Yes the lpg tank is huge I had it done to a hatchback vectra, and there was very little boot space left!

I think its about 500 miles.. I'll just double check with google!

Ooh.. 327 miles each way! I did do well lol! I think LPG was a lot cheaper back then tho, it was quite a while ago, when cornwall first got lpg, there were 2 garages that sold t!

My dad converted his jeep to LPG. It uses as much petrol as a 1.1 pug now! And its a 4ltr Jeep GC!

cos we're on crap enough money as it is for the work we do and we don't get bonuses at all, we work public holidays including christmas etc etc

I used to work public holidays too, as a care assistant.

I never got pay rises every year! Never expected them either. I knew what my job entailed when I took it, long hours and working on christmas etc! xx

When I left Uni I worked in the public sector until I had my 2nd child ... since then I've been in the private sector, mainly in Customer Services until I got my present job.

I've worked in jobs for years where I took cr*p from customers, worked Christmas and Bank Holidays, got no bonuses, no breaks, statutory minimum holiday and where a yearly pay rise was unheard of.

MOST people in the private sector have jobs like this ... and what's more we don't have union protection behind us for all of the other stuff like work bullying, being made to do extra shifts, working in conditions which break health and safety regs and being subject to being 'made redundant' if we dare to speak out.....people who have worked in the public sector for years really have no idea what it is like for those on the other side of the fence :(

I'm lucky in that my present job is fantastic and I love it - but I still have to work Christmas etc, have no bonuses and am reliant on the goodwill of my boss for even an inflation linked pay rise each year.

This^^ ive worked my current job for 4 years, worked Christmas, New years, Bank Hols .. very rarely get those leu days back as with the recession staff where cut you'd have to do extra shifts for same pay - no bonuses - havent had a pay rise in three years.

A pay freeze for 2 years isnt the worst that could have happened.

The indications are that you will be £245.15 better off.

It is good that we will get a higher tax allowance, however with the VAT rise it will not make us better off, as what they are giving with one hand, they are taking with the other - so its basically going to be the same.

£495 recent research has claimed it will cost the average household per year in extra VAT.
Now according to that calculator thingy someone linked to on here we would be better off £456 with the income tax thing being raised to £7.475 and the tax credit thing being increased!
It looks like I'll lose that in VAT, making me worse off instead !

Everything will rise in price again i.e bills ect! The VAT will bump the prices up even more as well. Benefits are being frozen and wages will stay the same!
How is that helping people on low incomes ect?

Or am I missing something??

I'm very sceptical about this budget and I'm looking forward to the one in October where fuel and everything else will most likely go up as well.

x

Can someone help me with the student loan side of things. The are selling them off but what does this mean of us that have one?

I used to pay a fair bit back each month but since going part time I dont becuase I earn under the threshhold.

Help.

Doesn't mean much tbh. T&Cs may change but they should stay the same for people like us with outstanding loans.

Well their main aim was to sort out the country! not help families on low incomes. Having said that they said they want to help them MORE than people on high incomes.

So basically high incomes will have benefits stopped etc

people on low incomes well they have increased the personal tax allowence meaning loads of low income people now do not have to pay tax at all and the rest of them their tax is lowered, as well as increased child tax credits

The budget in october will set the spending limits, so most people will see changes there too. Will be interesting which Tory & which LD policies stay intact too... things like Trident for example will be explained then.

I personally dont think its that bad - everyone should have expected some cuts and to be worse off anyway, so IMO its definately not as bad as it could have been.

The aim was to sort out our debts, not make life easier for people

I think their plans are actually very reasonable, and it could have been alot worse!

I do know that was their main aim I'm not stupid  Or maybe I am :dohh:
They also said they would protect the poor/low incomes in the procsess.
Maybe I should change the word 'help' to protect instead.
:flower:

I dont really get why people are complaining about the VAT so much! We all want the countries debt to get smaller, where does everyone expect this money to come from!? It's not even THaT much of a rise when you put it into perspective.. If you want to buy something now that costs £400, in January it will cost you £408 instead... big deal!?

im more concerned about the 'no tax credits for those earning over £26K from 2012'

Georgie you lied to us

It was on the daily politics show - the link is in the thread titled 'Latest News!!' I believe..

i hope thats not true but i wouldnt put it past them :growlmad:

If thats as a single income then fair enough, as a household then your average yould be around 40-50 if both were working, but if its 26 on a joint income thats ridiculous
