Hi Everyone,

This is my first individual thread. I'm hoping someone out there has the same experience as me.

I'm on month 8 ttc. I have been off bcp for 4 years. For the past year and a half I have experienced mid-cycle light to moderate bleeding. It used to just last 2-3 days between cycle days 11-14, so I always assumed it was ovulation bleeding. Starting in January of 2012, however, it started lasting longer and sometimes occurring unpredictably between cd 10-23. For the past 5 months it has lasted 6-8 days in the middle of my cycle starting on cd 11 or 12. Additionally, my emotions during this bleeding time are off the charts. I feel out of my mind angry, exhausted, and have trouble concentrating. This is in the middle of my cycle, so it's not PMS.

I've taken the month off from paying attention to my cycle and taking ovulation tests. I'm trying to stay carefree for a month. Well today, I was feeling irritable all day and went to the bathroom to find the bleeding had started. I went to a calendar and counted the days since my last af. I found that, sure enough, it's cd 12. It's like clockwork.

I have my periods regularly every month (between 29-31 day cycles). They have gotten much heavier over the past year. I'm a normal weight for my height. I get positive opk's usually on cd 18 or 19 (a little later). I've had an ultrasound and progesterone tests (all normal). One doctor told me it could be ovulation bleeding that lasts for a week (never knew that was possible). The other doctors told me that my only option is to go on bcp to try to regulate my hormones or to try Clomid. Neither option is ideal after only 8 months ttc.

Does anyone else experience something similar? I can't help but think that whatever is causing this bleeding is affecting my fertility, but I want to wait the traditional year of ttc before I see a specialist.

My ultrasound did show a nabothian cyst on my cervix that they said was normal. The only thing is when I looked at the report after I left the doctor's office last week, I saw that the cyst measured 3.8 x 2.8 x 1.8 cm. I read online that the normal range is only 2-8 mm. Should I be concerned about this large cyst on my cervix? I don't think it would cause the bleeding every month.

I'm sorry for the long post—it's just a complicated issue. If anyone has had a similar experience, what was the cause? How did you resolve the issue? I am of course concerned about this affecting my ability to conceive, but I'm also looking to restore my well-being. I bleed for half the month! Whatever it is, it's doing something wacky to my hormones.

Thanks for reading. :hugs:

I have a bad headache, so I skinned ur post, sorry. I had mid cycle spotting this week, but don't know what part of my cycle I'm in. I thought I had my af 2 weeks ago. It was watery and super light n short. I hope u can find my other post on here, it explains it all. Msg me if u want :)

Hi, I didn't want to read and run. I think maybe you should see an fs sooner rather than later, if only to put your mind at rest. But also, as you say, you are bleeding for half the month which isn't ideal for baby making? It sounds like it could be (although I'm no doctor so this is a stab in the dark) a hormone issue with one hormone dominant, so maybe you could ask your regular doctor to check all your levels?

Sorry I haven't got any more actual advice and hope it all works out for you.

Thanks for your advice!! I really appreciate it! Sorry it took me so long to respond—dh and I just bought a house and we've been in the midst of a move.

This month I decided to ignore my cycle and just bd every other day for the entire month. I also tried to work on my stress levels, because I have a very stressful job (or I should say jobs). I only had two days of mid-cycle bleeding, and it wasn't as heavy as usual (CDs 12 and 14). This is the best it's been in eight months!! I also avoided soy products because I have a feeling it's an estrogen problem. Fingers crossed that this strategy worked. I'll know on Thursday.

I'm trying to wait a couple more months before I see a fs. Hubby is going to get checked out in two if we haven't conceived yet. It's obvious there is some kind of hormonal problem with me, but I'm trying to resolve it naturally first. Also,my regular periods and normal progesterone levels (7 days after o) suggest I'm Oing every month. It may just be the hormone issue is making it more difficult.

Good luck ttc!!!

Yours sounds like it could have been ovulation spotting, which is a good thing! Good luck!! I hope you get your BFP!!!

Hi there! I also had some mysterious spotting this cycle on cd36, currently on cd42.

Have you ruled out uterine fibroids? They are know to cause mid cycle bleeding. X for you. =)

They didn't see any in the ultrasound. They said it could possibly be polyps that aren't always visible on the ultrasound, but the fact that I have crazy mood swings with it, makes me think it's hormonal. Lowering my stress and avoiding soy has seemed to help this month. I'm hoping to resolve the issue without them giving me more hormones.

Something similar happened to me when I was around 20 (I'm 25 now). At that time I was not TTC, charting, or anything like that.

What happened to me was I noticed that I started getting what I thought was a period every two weeks. I had normally had your average 28 day cycle, very light, lasted only 3-5 days...but then they became heavy and more frequent. It got to the point where I had to go in to the dr because I was so tired and would get massive bruises at the lightest touches. I ended up going on the pill to regulate my cycles. I was on the pill for 4+ years and since coming off it 8 months ago I have had no issues.

I have no advice really, since when I went through that I was not TTC, but thought I'd share since it's similar. My issues were definitely hormonal. I hope that you get it all figured out soon :flower:

I get a little bit of spotting a few days to a week before ovulation. I have no idea why. seems to coincide with the start of fertile mucus, so I've just assumed that there is a bit of blood shedding into the mucus. I think I'm ovulating, so not too worried yet. Sorry I don't have any answers.

thank you all for sharing your experiences...

Hi all,

I have a similar issue, probably a bit more extensive, given that I've now got to the point that I spot for most of the month non-stop, but it definitely gets worse, as do my moods, around ovulation time but I don't think it's 'ovulation' bleeding - I'm not talking about a little bit of spotting. I too am convinced it's hormonal, I've been seeing an (american) chinese doctor (ie: an american lady who practices TCM) to try and tread it and hopefully get me a baby in the process. So far (about 3 months in) I have seen some moderate improvement but it's still there and today is day 12 and lo and behold there it was.

I had spotting before my period before we begun TTC (4.5years now  ) but I feel like it got worse after IVF and all the hormones my body has been pumped with. I agree that my gut feel is it's symptomatic of something that's certainly not helping my fertility, but I will say that on round 2 (of 4) IVF I did get pregnant and carried to 12.5 weeks without any bleeds or spotting, so I certainly don't believe it's a showstopper. I don't believe the miscarriage was linked to the spotting issue I have now.

I'm interested to know if any of you have had any more answers from your doctors as similarly I have found them fairly dismissive of it all - according to most of them spotting isn't a reason for not getting pregnant. Doesn't make it pleasant to live with though... :nope:

I have a cervical ectropian that bleeds a lot. For me it is worst after ovulation and will bleed a lot after a bowel movement in the tww. I did have it when I got pg with dd but it wasn't as bad, however it caused random bleeds in pregnancy. Sorry you are going through this :(

I have mid cycle bleeding and afterwards I have spotting until AF. I only have about 10 blood free days a month. I am having a pelvic ultrasound next week to check out what's wrong.

Thanks for your replies - I knew I was posting on an old thread so it's great to get a response straight away. Let us know how you get on with your ultrasound button. [-o<

I think there may be various explanations for similar symptoms. I know cervical errosions (ectropians) can cause bleeding, but in my personal case I've been checked for that and it's not the case. I think endometriosis (which I have) can also cause wierd bleeding (but in some people doesn't) and as someone else said polyps and fibroids. For me there's 2 things I'd like to know: 1) is it stopping me getting pregnant (other than making it rather difficult to bd at the right time!) and 2) how to make it stop as I'm sick of having to use sanitary products month round!

Wouldn't wish it on any of you, but it's comforting to know I'm not the only one :hugs:

I know I have cervical erosion. I completely sympathise with you, I'm sick of using pads for weeks on end and I got pregnant reasonably easily the first time so I'm worried it's stopping me conceiving number 2. I hate DTD when I'm bleeding as well.

Had my us today and they couldn't see anything that could be causing the bleeding or that could be stopping me getting pregnant.
