anyone else spot for several days before AF?

I'm just curious if there are any other ladie who spot for several days before AF? For the past year I have pretty much had spotting 3-6 days before AF started. Most of the time it is brown, but here lately it has been bright red but still spotting. I have had my progesterone tested several times and it has been normal so idk what it could be. Anyone have this?

Yup, I have this *all* the time. I used to spot for 2-3 days before each period, every cycle, but in the last 4 months or so that's suddenly changed: some cycles I spot for longer, others I don't at all and AF suddenly starts.

Had two consecutive cycles where I spotted for 7 days (pretty sure those were chemicals/losses, with the loss happening immediately after the implantation) but I often spot for 3-5 days before any AF.

I do. I used to spot 2-3 days before af but it changed to 5-7 days before af in the last year. I'm currently getting tested. I've had cd3 and cd21 bloodwork and I had an hsg and so far nothing is pointing to the cause. There's a group of us in the TTC Boards and Discussions group if you want to take a look. Some of us are still trying but there has been some success stories as well

I do spot a day or two before but I usually get AF cramps for days before AF (sometimes 3 or more days before). From what I understand that's 'okay' but I've never been pregnant either....

AF very very VERY rarely sneaks up on me, usually she announces herself several days before with spotting and cramping.

According to the treatment I am in, spotting like that is usually a sign of low progesterone. However, I have had my progesterone levels measured lately and they are fine now but I still spot from ovulation to 1st cycle day if I dont take progesterone sups.

yes since ttc the exact same thing happens to me every month 6 days before af, so depressing x

thanks for your replies! So i guess there is a possibility to have low progesterone and still test fine? i go back to the FS in a month but i dont think he will be concerned about it. but i am.

I too spot 3-4 days before AF shows. The first spot is reddish pink, then it turns brown right up until AF arrives. You are not alone!

I also get this anywhere from 2-7 days before af! I hate it and havent found the cause of it yet. The only thing that has helped me has been exercise. I thought it was low progesterone but I used progesterone supplements and that didnt help one bit.

I'm trying to see if some of the things I experience tie together for the same reason. I spot before AF but I also get dreadful spots (as in the pimple kind) on my jawline and on my chin.

I know this can be a hormonal thing and I'm wondering if it has the same cause as my spotting?

Anyone else have this?

Me too - also part of the spotting group on the discussions board (waves to Islandgrl)!

I have spotted before AF for as long as I can remember - sometimes from 4dpo. Also have a short luteal phase of 8-12 days.

I have had three cycles of Clomid at 100mg to see if it made any difference. With Clomid the spotting starts at 7dpo and my LP is nearer the 12 day mark. But the spotting takes the same format (starts beige, then dark brown, then reddish brown).

My consultant and GP don't seem to think it's an issue. Plus I had my progesterone tested in my second Clomid cycle and it was really really good (and I'd started spotting that morning - so would have thought if low progesterone was the cause it'd be low).

Yep, I have this too - my progesterone test came back normal so my Dr didn't put me on prog supplements until last month. It was the first time I didn't spot since coming off bc almost 2 years ago. And my LP was a normal 14 days instead of barely 11 (counting spotting days)

me too! i get huge pimple like welts on my jawline and just nasty pimples on my chin. its so embarrassing. I'm 30 and break out more now than i did as a teenager! ugh. its definitely hormonal i think.

I'm an absolute mess at the moment, my pimples are worse than they've been since I was 18. All over my chin and jaw, but now on my forehead as well! On a long cycle (2nd day of spotting...day 34...still no AF...) and feeling miserable. Embarrassed by the state of my face and feel bloated and ugly, which isn't helping things. I'm 28, not 14!!!

Hi girls,

I've had this too ever since coming off the pill 13 months ago. I usually spot for 4 days before AF but sometimes have spotted on/off from ovulation to AF. My GP said she won't give me Progesterone supplements as that would then act as a contraceptive? Is that right?? She said Progesterone pills are basically the mini-pill!

I've had two CD21 blood tests and both came back normal level.

As I understand it, if you took progesterone starting on CD 1 you wouldn't ovulate because your body would be confused and think you already did! My Dr said not to take the progesterone until 3 days after I ovulate, just to be sure. Progesterone has to rise after ovulation to support implantation so if you take it at the right time it isn't a contraceptive - or else nobody would ever get pg! Hope that helps!

Add me to the list, so frustrating. It never happened on the pill so I am wondering if my progesterone just dips right after cd21 which is why my tests are always okay.

Funny how so many of us have this but it's just brushed aside as nothing. I can't even play the two week wait game cause I know faaar sooner due to spotting!
