Anyone else taking FOREVER ttc#2?

I have one DD but been TTC #2 with current hubby. we've been together 7 yrs and although we were NTNP I always thought that we would get pregnant fast but it wasn't the case. we finally got our :bfp: last Oct but sadly had a m/c and we've been TTC since Dec 2010. Im going through fertility meds now and and am currently in my TWW of my 2nd IUI. I have low egg reserve and Im 36.

Lisa2010 - first of all sorry for your loss :hugs: - I also had a m/c in Dec 2010 and thought #2 would come along faster too.
I know you are in the USA and things may be different to the UK but what test showed that you have a low egg reserve? I had an HSG 4 yrs ago and I'm sure they told me I had a low egg reserve or something like that - something like when they x-rayed me they saw how many eggs had been released...is this the same as a low egg reserve... (I know it sounds stupid not to remember but I got pregnant straight away so it was never followed up). I've got an appointment again with the same fertility specialist as I've been ttc #2 for 15mths (and am 38) so will ask then (my GP didnt have the results) but the appointment is about 6 weeks away which feels like forever right now!!

I'm seriously considering starting IUI in Nov or Dec. My dr said the success rate is almost 20% but I don't know where we would get the $ to do it more than once. It's about $1500 a cycle. I also worry bc I know i would be deviatated if it didn't work the first time!

How are you emotionally preparing for the IUIs?

thank you :hugs: Im sorry for your loss as well :hugs:
they first tested my FSH levels and it came back at 11.80 or something like that. and then they had me follow that with the AMH blood test which confirmed my high FSH number. I don't remember the number but I should be getting a copy of my chart soon. I also had an HSG and my tubes are clear but my doc didn't say anything about that and egg reserve, the results of my blood test is what he went by. Have you had an FSH (cd3) blood test done? it doesn't sound stupid not to remember, we go through so much that it really takes it toll so don't ever feel that way.. :hugs: I would say get FSH blood test, ask for the AMH blood test too, and ask to have another HSG to make sure your tubes are clear. that was my doc's protocol. after my HSG he put me on injections and IUI bcuz hubby's sperm count is good but his swimmers arent. let me know if you have any more questions. I'll be happy to answer :hugs:

do you have insurance? my insurance covers 90% after copay.
Im not sure how much my doc charges but I have to pay 10% of it. I was disappointed after my first IUI and almost gave up. I can honestly say that I had a mild breakdown but I got myself up and gave it another go. this time though, I am much more relaxed about it and am not putting so much pressure on myself. bcuz I have low egg reserve, our next step would be IVF but Im just not sure I want to go that route yet. my insurance does cover $15K lifetime but Im just not sure. hubby and I are still undecided on whether we are going to go through with a third IUI just bcuz it's really painful for me. you see I have a high cervix and for many women this procedure feels just like pap smear and it only last 5 minutes but not for me. my IUI takes 20-30 minutes cuz he has to use different tools just to find my cervix and it starts to hurt after a while. Ive cried both times bcuz of the physical and emotional pain I felt. I will be taking a blood pregnancy test on Sep 23rd.

I'm so sorry Lisa! Hopefully 2nd time is it! I'll be praying for your bfp this month. I can completely understand the emotional toll. It gets to be too much for me at times.

I do have insurance through blue cross. They said they don't cover anything that has to do with infertilty. Every penny is out of pocket. I've been finishing my college degree for 2 yrs now and finances are tight. So it's hard to come up with that much money. I've been spending $300 a month for maternity insurance for 2 years now. What a waste!!!!

Yes! People ask us all the time if we have decided not to have more children! Most people can't comprehend having one and being unable to get pregnant again. I have no idea what's causing our problems but I wish I had some answers! Our little man just turned 4 and that was difficult for me. He wants a sibling so bad. He asks all the time why he can't have one :(

Hi ladies! We are at cycle 16 trying to give our DD a sibling. We are currently taking a break from ttc due to OH's work schedule, not sure how long it will be. We were fortunate to get pregnant with our DD first cycle trying. I have seen an obgyn who suspected my emergency c section could be the cause and so I had an HSG done. There was a partial blockage in my left tube but he didn't feel that this was the cause of our infertility. This was back in June. He said to try for 3 months and if still nothing to come back. So I'm headed back next month to discuss where we go from here. I think it's going to be some sort of medication.

Jodi,
That is interesting that your doc said maybe the emerg section was the cause-did the doc tell you why it was suspected? Surely the blocked tube had nothing to do with the section. I always wonder if scarring is an issue...

Thanks Lisa - I must have had a blood test - I only remember the HSG of course but they must have shown me the overall report. I've got an initial appointment early Nov and they will arrange an HSG - hopefully that will all be enough but at least I'll be on the right path if there are any problems. I'm glad I finally went to see the doc - feels a relief to not keep trying to ignore it all!

Laine/Momofone - yes both of those situations kill me - our son is 3 and would love a brother or sister to play with. I would honestly be happy with one child but really think that having a sibling would be so lovely for him. And I think when people ask they probably have no idea that you can have problems second time round esp if it was easy first time. It's tough seeing friends who had their first after you get pregnant with their second, while you're still trying.

It must be really difficult not being able to conceive number 2. Would be lovely for them to have a brother/sister to play with.
I do have to admit I am jelous though as I have been TTC for 12 months and havent had any luck! I am fertile and so is my partner but playing the waiting game every single month is torture! Good luck ladies x
