Hi all, our ttc date is getting ever closer which i am really excited about.

But one of the main reasons we've been waiting is so that i can lose some weight and get healthy. I have lost about 2.5 stone so far but still am about 7 stone over weight.

I am supposed to be sticking to a rigid diet and doing exercise until we ttc but i cant seem to do it. The closer we are getting the harder i am finding it, you would think with such a big motivation it would be easy!!!

We have resigned ourselves to the fact that i will be a big girl when we ttc but even at 18 stone i am very regular and seem to be ovulating ok.

Is anyone else going to be big when they ttc? I'm just wanting to talk to other people in my situation x x

Hi Bec,

I remember you from a while back :hi:

I have quite a bit of weight to shift and I finally feel really focused to do this now (if only it were an instant thing!!) I think my surge in motivation is because we'll hopefully be TTC in the next 10 months or so....realistically though I'll still probably be in the 'Obese' category that I hate so much! I'm only 5ft so a 'healthy' weight for me is just stupidly unachieavble (plus I also think I would look awful!)

I worry all the time about being 'judged' my mid wifes etc - and also the thought of not looking pregnant for a while like my skinny mates did almost straight away gets me down too.

You've done brilliantly loosing 2.5 so far :happydance: When are you thinking of TTC?

:flower:

We are going to start ttc early next year I'm also 18stone odd and I have been going to slimming world, but I just can not stick to it .. Terrible I know!! So far I've done 1.5stone better than nothing I suppose! My aunt is very obese and she's had 6 beautiful healthy children? I was slightly over weight when I had my son but was 4 stone lighter than I am now (hope that makes sense)
When are u going to start ttc?! Lucy x

I'm 24 and 17st I got pregnant in April this year lost him/her in may and was pregnant before that , my aunt is like 20st had 5 kids no problem , there doesn't seem to be any issues with overweight women in my family sometimes I try to lose a couple pounds but then I think I can't be bothered lol

Hi girls. Thanks for the replies. We are hopefully going to start trying once we've had our holiday at the beginning of aug.

I just worry that we will get to aug and oh will want to put it off until i've lost more more weight.

I have done every diet going and at the moment i am trying to stick to cambridge diet but am on holiday this week :-S

Are any of you guys ttc soon?

This is my first day here and i'm so excited to have found this site. however i am in the same boat as you. we are ttc in December and by converting lbs. to stone just discovered that i am sixteen stone. I have had my weight in a slow retreat for the last year. my advice is to not go too extreme or you could have the reverse effect especially if you're stressing about it.

I remember you from awhile back. I think i am going to be in the same position as you. We just have to do our best, any weightloss before ttc is better than none remember xx

Hi dimples, i remember you too. I know any weight loss is good but one of the main reasons we have been waiting is for me to get healthy and i think that he thinks i should be so much thinner (healthier!!). But i am getting to the point where i think we should just go for it in aug regardless what i weigh but i know he would rather wait :(

Although hopefully when we get there he might change his mind ;)

I was 22 stone when I fell pregnant with my first, It did affect my pregnancy e.g meant I was consultant led, at higher risk of certain things, scans werent as clear, but I had a very healthy baby so all was good! :)
Also some people say it can affect fertility and whatnot, didnt with me, it worked on the first go! (e.g as soon as we stopped contraception and I cycled my legs in the air after sex lol)

I may be completely wrong about this, and I deeply apologize if I am, but it kind of seems unfair for your husband to put you in this position. Its like dangling a carrot in front of a rabbit and giving it to him only when he does a backflip. Its great that he wants you to be healthy, and of course it is best for baby, but its hard enough for a woman to lose weight without the added pressure of your DH using conceiving a child as bargaining chip for your weight loss.

If your doctor gives you the green light to TTC, that should be enough. Weight loss is a personal struggle (speaking from experience!!), and what you need is support and the reassurance that your husband would have children with you whether you weigh 18 stone or 30 or 12.

I apologize if that was out of turn, I just think of how I would feel if my husband said that to me.

Hi,

I'm also trying to lose weight before I TTC and just generally after putting on a bunch after getting married. I am 14 stone at the moment and would love to lost 1.5-2stone before my holiday in 12 weeks when we will start ttc but i think that is a bit unrealistic, have been hammering the gym and doing WW just wish it would come off quicker!!

Hi holynesss. To be honest you are completely right in what you said. I do feel like a rabbit sometimes with a big fat carrot dangling infront of me. Like the other week i mentioned about registering on certain websites and being sent things for free and he was all for doing it now. But thwn a couple of nights ago (he was quite drunk) he said that he doesnt think we'll be trying this year as i'm still way off my goal :(

I can see it from his point of view though as it would feel like we have waited all this time and gone through all of this heartache of me trying to lose weight that it would be silly to throw in the towel now. But on the other hand, neither of us are getting any younger as i'm 32 in jan and he's 34 next april.

I also worry that when we do eventually start trying and we hit complications that i will be getting on a bit as i want at least 2 kids.

I know he wants a baby just as much as me but i think he would rather everything be perfect, which apart from my weight, it will be.

Sorry for the long post :)

i havent been on this site in ages but just agreed on a date for us to try for our first - January 2014. However, like your OH, mine wants me to lose weight first (and i want to as well tbh). I am currently in the obese category and 14 stone. I have about 4.5 stone to lose to get to my ideal weight. I started slimming world last month and booked a holiday for the end of October so hoping that, along with the date for TTC will get me motivated to lose the weight. Having said that i've found it sooooo hard! Been overweight for the majoirty of my 20's and will be 30 next year. Hope all goes well for you.

I was overweight for the majoirty of my 20's - lost a load for our wedding and then have spent married life putting it back on  How are you finding Slimming World? I lost 5 stone with Weight Watchers but not finding it's working so well for me this time round, thinking of trying SW - something more drastic like lighter life sounds like it would give quick results but I can't see that being a very healthy preconception diet?

SW is great, there is a real focus on eating healthily and its an easy plan to follow. If you like your pasta, rice, meat, potatoes etc its the diet for you. I did WW before and it didnt work for me as i didnt learn to eat healthily. My parents have both done Lighter Life and lost a lot of weight but as soon as they stopped it and started eating normally they put all their weight back on as they didnt learn healthy eating. Hope all goes well for you! xx

im ttc now considered obese.. I have lost 50 pounds and still trying to lose while ttc

Iv lost 2.5 stone too and hope to have lost another 3/4 before we TTC next year but il still be around 15/16 stone.

My biggest advice is to stop the Cambridge and switch to slimming world. The Cambridge may make you loose the weight but once you start eating normally it will all go back on. You need to get yourself into a habit of making healthy choices before you get pregnant. You can also follow slimming world while TTC and pregnant to prevent excess weight gain
