With a crisis loan u generally get it the same day, however they only pay crisis loans out in certain circumstances, when i applied for them before i had to say i had lost all my money on the bus or in OH's pocket and then they only gave me enough to last until i was due to get paid again. i think they work it out at £10 a day or something silly like that, i think u can get a budgeting loan and there are other options when phoning up.

Hope u get it sorted i know what a pain in the arse the jobcentre can be!

If u apply for it for living expenses they will give u £35 a week until ur due ur next payment and u get it that day.

If u apply for it for household items then u apply for however much u need and u get it within a week of applying most the time.

If u apply for a budgetting loan it could take up to six weeks and they ask u to pay more back a week then what u would for a crisis loan..

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for your replys :)

The job centre have told me I will get it because I am behind on the rent and waiting for my housing benefit and income support claims to go through. If I wait the 2 weeks it usually takes to sort them I'll have no house! xxx

U will need to state that on ur application and it should bump u up the pile :) If they ask u to apply by paperwork write in big red writing on the front saying URGENT :) x

The system has changed now. It used to be that they would make a descision and call you back within 4 hours, then pay it to you (VERY long process!) Now they give you the descision over the phone, and you can usually pick itup at the next payout time at the job center - they have them about 3 or 4 times a day I think. Also, when you ring up, you get 2 choices. One is for a crisis loan for living expenses and one is a crisis loan for household items. Choose the option for living expenses. Make sure you tell them you are pregnant too! They should give you enough to pay the rent (or they may send the rent directly to the landlord - they sometimes do) and some for food until you next get paid. Because you are pregnant they have to give you enough to cover rent AND food, gas and electric as potentially (and worst case scenario) you could loose your home if you don't pay rent which isn't good when you're pregnant, and you need to eat and be warm! Depending on when you are next due to be paid depends on how much they will give you. You do normally have tp state an amount you want - but make you sure you state an amount slightly higher than you need as they never pay you the full amount otherwise! :D

I love the infinite wisdom of baby and bump, collectively we know everything :haha:

Thanks, I'll phone them first thing Monday morning since you're not allowed to have a crisis at the weekend! xxx

Perfect explanation LOL

And dont let them tell u on the phone that rent isnt living expenses, it is

And tell them to check all ur details if they dont believe ur pregnant etc and say they need proof, especially if u have already given it. Tell them how long u have left etc and tell them u have not been given a date to expect ur first payment yet.. :)

If your claim for Income Support is a new one it can take several weeks to process. This sucks because then it means you have to keep applying for crisis loans, BUT they will have to pay you the full amount that you'd normally receive. If it's not a new claim, they just haven't paid you, ask for the amount you'd normally get and explain the situtation to them. Hopefully they'll be nice :D

unfortunatly rent is not living expences. If you check the web site it will tell you that crisis loans are for 'immediate risks to health or safety'. This is psyical health. So a crisis loan for living expences is for in an emergency situation where you need food. Thats why the payments are low. If you look online, rent is an excluded item and can not be paid.

Rent in advance isnt, but rent as in general "i live in the house my rents due" is..

Yes it's classed as a living expense as it is overdue and if not paid in the next week I'll be homeless, which would be an immediate risk to my health and safety xxx

Yea thats right

If u wanted to be extra extra safe u could speak to ur landlord before u apply for it and see if he will accept 2 weeks rent or just the overdue rent, until u recieve ur housing benefit or another payment, as the crisis loan might not cover a whole months rent..x

This will show you the exclusions for crisis loans. Items that are not paid for. It includes rent. part 2 (f)

There is a part where it says rent is excluded other than rent thats not covered by housing benefit. This means if you are in receipt/claimed for income support, you are entitled to housing benefit to pay your rent. If anything is paid for by another source or authority then crisis loans do not pay for that expense.
If you have made a claim to income support then your housing benefit claim will be also taken from your income support claim date. Housing benefit may take time to process your claim but it will all be backdated to your claim date. You would need to let your landlord/council know whats happening with your new claim and they should be expecting a backdated rent payment soon.

I am just trying to help so you do not get your hopes up, then you are told the same thing when you call monday. They will help with food, gas and electric xx :flower:

Yes I understand it is not normally awarded for rent but it is 2 weeks overdue, housing benefit could take another 2 weeks to go through and I will loose my home if I do not pay it in a week. The job centre are the one's who know how the whole thing works and they said I will be able to claim it to pay the overdue rent while my claim is being processed. xx

So.... they will give you money for food. But will also allow you to be kicked out of your home?? That seems very stupid to me!
Hope they manage to help you hun :hugs:

Don't worry, you WILL be able to get a crisis loan for your rent!! this is because you are pregnant. There are certain circumstances when a crisis loan is awarded to help towards rent as otherwise it could be a risk to your health and safety. These are things like being pregnant or having young children, being a single women (women are seen as more vulnerable), living in a hostel if housing benefit doesn't cover the whole rent, being elderly - which I'm assuming you're not?! :haha: - and things like for people with healt issues where leaving their home could seriously affect their physical/mental health or wellbeing. Also sometimes if you're under a certain age they'll award it for rent too. I've had crisis loans in the past to help pay for my rent. As your rent is late to be paid and you're pregnant they may just pay the landlord for you so you may not actually physically get given the money for the rent, but it depends on the landlord. Please don't worry! You are not going to be kicked out because the job center haven't paid you! And if you do, we'll all be down there with a bat! :haha:
