After nearly a year, sadly I am back on this area of the site again after my 3rd mmc yesterday, which was virtually identical to my other 2. Each time I have got to 10weeks and found out at a scan that my baby died at 7 weeks. This time and last time I saw a heartbeat at 6+3, didn't have an early scan the first time.
It is hard to believe with such a clear pattern that all 3 could be 'just bad luck'. I am nearly 40 so obviously the chance is fairly high each time, but why every time do they stop growing at 7 weeks?
I am having testing started which at least is something positive, they actually took bloods at the EPU after the scan to confirm the mmc, but I wondered if anyone else has had 3 mmc all with the same timings? Has anyone had any answers to recurrent mmc?
Sorry to everyone who finds themselves on this forum, it is just the cruelest most awful experience there could be. Just so unfair.

No advice but just wanted to extend my sympathies and apologies. You're in my thoughts :hugs: xx

Hi Blueboo

I have had 3 mmc, all identical.

We discovered the first mmc at the 12w scan, baby measured 6 weeks. For my 2nd pregnancy, i went to the 12w scan and same again, baby had died at 6w.

For the 3rd pregnancy i asked for an early scan which my midwife arranged. Baby measured 5w 6d and had a heartbeat. Fast forward three weeks and i felt my symptoms had disappeared so rang the epu and they let me go in for a scan a 9 weeks. Baby measured 6w and no heartbeat

So all of mine have died at 6 weeks but my body likes to hold onto them. For the first two pregnancies i started bleeding the day after the 12w scans but with the 3rd i started bleeding about 5 days after the scan so i would have nearly been 10 weeks

I had my thyroid tested straight after the 3rd mmc and it turned out it was very underactive and this can be a cause for miscarriages. I have had other blood tests, lieden factor v and lupus (blood clotting disorders) are all negative but they tested me for thyroid antibodies and i have them so i have auto immune thyroid disease that is causing my thyroid to be underactive. The antibodies can also cause miscarriages so its looking like my thyroid is the problem i am miscarrying. I am just waiting for a non pregnancy scan so there is a possibility that might show something but i have had a few internal scans and i know i don't have pcos as they would have seen it then.

Maybe get your thyroid checked whilst you wait for the other tests cos believe me its a slow process if you are in the uk. I miscarried at beginning of october and i dont see my consultant till 9th feb for scan results

All the best

xx

Thanks hope, I'm so sorry you've been through this, it is so cruel isn't it, going along not realising that your baby is no longer alive. Your pattern is very similar to mine.

I had read that thyroid issues can be involved in miscarriage but I've never really known much about it - are there any other symptoms or indications of a thyroid problem? I will ask to have it tested, is it just a blood test?

I hope you get some answers soon. All the waiting makes everything so much worse as it feels like there's no time to waste, and I'm guessing from your user name you're 39 like I am?

wishing you lots of love x

Oh no, get that little idea gone about me being 39!! Its my house number, lol. I have used it for other usernames so figured i wouldn't forget what number house i live at, i would like to forget my age thou, i have just turned 35 so halfway to the big 40

Have a look on net for underactive thyroid symptoms, i have dry hair, puffy eyes, put on loads of weight!! I put on over half a stone with each pregnancy i reckon. There is quite a few symptons and you won't have all of them.

It is a simple blood test that you do but remember that doctors go on your thyroid being normal if it is between 0.5 - 5, which is actually quite a big range. Fertility doctors all recommend that your tsh should be between 1-2 so if you have a result of 5 the doc's will say you are ok but you need to be telling them it has got to be under 2. I had a meeting with a professor in obstretics and she told me i wasn't allowed to try and conceive until my tsh was 2.5 or lower. Mine was originally 9.27, it went down to 5.24 after a month on meds and i then doubled my dose of thyroxine and it then went down to 1.3 which is perfect for ttc

A bnb friend had a thyroid tsh reading that varied throughout a year of tests, it never went over 3.5 (i think) and her consultant from St Marys put her on thyroxine

My consultant has a patient that has a perfect tsh thyroid reading yet has thyroid antibodies, they have put her on thyroxine for the antibodies and she was the furthest along she had made in a pregnancy when i was last their so i will get an update in feb

I know how you fell, you just want answers and you want them now so that you can get it sorted, NHS is a slow process where i live but i think i can try again in the next few months, so fed up of waiting

xx

Hi there im so sorry for your losses and that you find yourself here....i dont really have any words of wisdom but i have had 2 mmc..like yours both of mine have been identical..we have seen hb at 6 wks but told at later scans that growth and hb stopped at 7 wks...i have been told i cant have any tests until i have 3 mc it seems so cruel...i have been to a private consultant she said as mc occured b4 7 wks its likely to be chromosomal not hormonal...i honestly dont know if that is true or not..i wish you lots of luck and hope you get some answers soon big hugs to you xxx
