I really really would like a Shihtzu, not 100% certain whether I'll get a puppy or a little bit older puppy but wondered if anyone had one and could tell me what they are like temprement wise etc?

My auntie has one who is the sweetest little dog in the world but she's completely ruined so don't want to base my judgement on her :haha:

We have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier at the moment (although you wouldn't think she was one :dohh:) she's almost 6 now, really laid back and loves nothing more than cuddling up in her bed with next doors cat :dohh: She's fab with other dogs too and misses her companion (Jack Russell ) Are Shihtzu's ok with other dogs?

It's taken me about 6 months to get DH to agree to me getting one and I have strict rules lol he won't walk it or clean up after it :haha: I'm planning on waiting until the weather gets nicer so the dog can spend all time outside whilst I revamp my garden and hopefully by this time next year will be housetrained, are they easy to train?

If you do have one, can I see photos please :haha: Awww I do love them!

Mum had one years back....got it as a puppy...we already had a Lhasa Apso and oh dear, they did not get on well together. The shihtzu wanted to be top dog and used o bully the other one and he would also constantly poo ono the carpet and eat it. Gross.

My mom had a friend, where that was the only breed she liked. She has three over the years, and still has two of them.
They are very good dogs, but when you have two there is definitely a "leader".
They also need to go to the groomers alot, and have very high energy.

Shihtzu's were a Chinese Royalty dog, back in the day. :] They are pretty cool, loving, and sit by your side.

    But every individual dog varies.

my friends had one - he was quite aggressive at times, and wouldn't get on with other dogs even though he went to puppy socialisation, was walked twice a day around people and dogs etc. He was also really randy!! He used to try and mount anything and everything, especially people's legs, even after being done! He definately wanted to be the pack leader. As RinnaRoo said, all individual dogs do vary though.

I have a shih tzu and he is the greatest love bug that ever existed. He just wants to cuddle. He is fantastic with children, really gentle. He is perfect with other dogs. He grooms my rabbit and enjoys nothing more than playing with the cat from next door. He is so good that I think it would be hard for me to go with another breed of dog! I think alot of it though is down to the way you raise them

I had one in the past, and he was a lovable little thing. Very content to just sit by my side and hang out. Only problem we had was he had a little separation anxiety, but we worked through it with time and patience.

I have a 6 month old shih Tzu puppy called Miley and shes adorable. Shes so gentle and lovely, i have a 4 year old and he loves her to bits and she loves playing with him even though hes a bit rough with her. I know few people who had shih tzu's and they have said the same nice calm and loyal dogs lol though she does have a wee spell each day where she runs round the living room chasing her tail x x
