Just been chatting to hubby and we have decided that we are going to try and keep our babies gender a secret and pretend that the sonographer couldnt tell. (scan in a week and a half :happydance:)

Just wondered if anyone is doing this too or if anyone has done this with previous pregnancies?

Im pants at keeping secrets especially with something so exciting so need tips on how to keep my mouth closed

I never understand why people find out the sex of their baby and then keep it a secret from everyone else. I dont think anyone is ever that excited about the sex of a child unless its their own anyway? Perhaps I am not an excitable person, i dunno.

(I am also one of those women who did not think it important/ exciting to find special ways to announce that I was pregnant, so perhaps ignore me).

wasnt expecting a reply like that :(

Why shouldnt we keep it a secret? its our baby not anyone elses. Tbh i wasnt asking for peoples opinions i was asking if anyone has done this too

I am seriously thinking about telling them that the baby didn't cooperate...Just because I have 3 girls and hoping for a boy this time and they are all already telling me it is going to be another girl and I am only 6 weeks and 4 days, so I think I want them to sweat it out!!! :haha:

I have !! I had a gender scan last week , didn't tell anyone cos it was private and people seem very judgemental in my choosing to pay and find out early. So me and hubby went and had a private, special day :D and haven't told anyone ! Finding it hard tho ...:dohh:

I wouldnt be able to not give it away by saying he/she, or buying certain colours, so it wouldnt work. We're staying on team yellow anyhow :)

sorry hun, it came out a bit meaner sounding than i intended. i just dont get why people want to keep it a secret if they know the sex and have told everyone else that they're having a baby already? whats the reason behind keeping this part a secret? i have a few friends who have done the same and i dont get it. :flower:

its ok, i would just like to have something private between hubby and myself. Sounds mean, but i just think it will be fun and maintain a bit of mystery but im too impatient to be subject to the mystery so wanna find out :)

I don't want to the gender at all but OH does. The comprimise is that it will be a secret to everyone else.

The reason for me is because I don't like big productions. My family members like to gush and ooh and awww and go overboard on all these things while it makes me feel uncomfortable. They will bombard me with baby pink or baby blue EVERYTHING. I appreciate the thought but they got nuts and it drives me nuts!

If you remember Miranda from Sex and the City, I am like her with all this baby stuff. She didn't want a cutsy shower and little finger sandwiches and I am the same way. I know I can't go white water rafting for a baby shower but why can't we just go out for dinner and call it good & earth tones are nice. :haha:

I have the same feelings as bumpbear - I just don't get why people find out the gender and want keep it a secret. I have friends that have done this, and respect their decision - it is their baby afterall. But, I am just not convinced by the reasoning for it, and would never do it myself.

Two of my friends have done this, and the reason they kept baby's gender a secret was because they both found out they were having girls and there was a LOT of family pressure on them to have boys. They didn't want to hear about their family's disappointment about the gender.

We are considering finding out the sex & if we do we won't be telling anyone else. I totally disagree about other people not caring, I always get excited about finding out. I think when everyone knows then when the baby is born it's just like "they're here" - I know that my parents, in laws, sister & friends will be bursting to find out as I would be for them.

Go for it hun, we're just going to say we didn't ask!

Xx

we did the 'baby would cooperate thing' decided its out secret for a while plan on having a 4d scan so may reveal then
if we dont have one then it'll be a secret til the end :)

I know the sex of my baby, but oh doesn't want to know. My mum was with me when I got the call (they found out from cvs results) and she overheard on the phone. My stepdad doesn't want to know either. So it's easier to keep it a secret, otherwise it'll get back to them. I'm finding it hard not to say anything though!!xx

I think a lot of people find out and dont let on,I'm always suspicious of people who say they didnt find out as to whether they really know :haha:
I also know people who told people they knew and just werent telling anyone else, which I thought must be really difficult because then people were trying to trick them into letting the cat out of the bag
We have three boys and they really dont want to know whether they're going to have a baby brother or sister they want it to be a surprise,we however couldn't NOT find out as it was already driving us crazy
We're really looking forward to the big surprise especially as most people are expecting that it's another little blue one cant wait to see the look on our boys faces :happydance::cloud9:
