I am starting this in the morning as I have tried everything else for my 5 week old.. so its def worth the try just to see if it helps.

Anyone got any tips or advice?

I've just replied on another thread regarding my LO's diagnosis of cow's milk protein intolerance, and my going dairy free three weeks ago. It's all going really well and after a very poorly little boy, he is now thriving again :)

There are some great milk alternatives on the market - soya, rice and oats. They all taste rather different and I can't say I have a favourite. There is also a great soya spread called PURE which is also a good alternative to marg (not a patch on good old delicious butter mind you ;)).

All I'd say is be particularly vigilent when buying foods as many contain milk/cream/whey powder, and they are quite often the most unlikely of foods. For example; Walkers salt and vinegar crisps contain milk products, however prawn cocktail do not - random.

I'm only a dairy-free beginner myself but feel free to ask any questions and I'll do my best to answer :) I'm sure there are many more experienced ladies on here mind you... :)

Can I ask what difference you're seeing in baby from following a dairy free diet?

Was suggested by my doctor to avoid soy as well... I found I had to be so careful reading labels as you will be amazed at what has milk, butter, cheese, marg ect in it. We even found that some sausages have "lactic" ingredients and even actual milk sometimes!

My baby was spitting up alot in the first 2 months, so I decided to cut out the fresh milk I took every morning. And that seemed to have help quite a bit - she no longer needs a bip (she used to have to wear one everywhere she goes!). I do still indulge in ice-cream though & also I do add a bit of milk to oatmeal but I don't guzzle down a full cup of milk anymore. For calcium, I still take my prenatal vitamins (as recommended by my OBGYN and pediatrician) and also I take calcium-fortified orange juice.

Sorry for the delay responding...

My LO was having chronic stomach pains, combined with green poo with lots of blood in it, and had a rash all over his body. Since I have gone dairy free, all symptoms have gone. It was pretty much instant with the pains, the rash took a couple of days, and the blood in the nappies took approx 10 days.

HTH :)

I want to try a dairy free diet as my poor baby's stomach has been terrible as of late. I suspect dairy products are the culprits. I love cereal but looks like that is going to have to go.

Hi Tickledpink, you could still have your cereal but perhaps in other diary-free milk such as soy milk, rice milk etc? Hope your baby's tummy feels better.

I have gone the past few days without dairy and her stomach is much better. So looks like I will have to go to rice or soy milk
