Im giving up bfing my son and wondered if anyone on here had any helpful advice about relieving pain etc?? thanks in advance.xx

i stopped expressing at 4 weeks (tried to bf for the first 2 but bella refused, so expressed for the next 2) & haen't had any pain. i'm still producing small amounts of milk, i hand express a teeny amount each day to ease any pressure, but never had any problems with leaking since stopping.
xx

Cabbage leaves! Work a treat.. Also like previous poster said try expressing a tiny bit of milk off each day until the pain stops. I spent alot of time in the shower too!
Hope it gets easier soon

I actually stopped at 3 weeks because it was just to much for me with no help really and recovering for a c-section. was putting to much stress on me. And i tried pumping but don't know, just didn't like it i guess.

So I pumped each breast once the next day when I couldn't take the pain anymore, did the same the next (by the way my boobs looked amazing in shirts why they were all full but hurt like hell. lol) And after that I felt no pain at all and slowly they stopped leaking, i mean i can still squeeze and a few drops come out but other then that thats all i did.

I could not get Amelia on the boob, she just wouldn't latch, so I expressed for 3 1/2wks. When I got fed up with that I gradually reduced the number of times I would express. This reduced my milk supply. It is a gradual process. I wouldn't recommend you wait to relieve yourself at the point when your hurting - this could cause blocked milk ducts, creating lumps and could lead to mastitis. Avoid letting the hot water run over your boobs, as this stimulates the milk to be let down. Try applying cold packs for 15-20mins a few times a day. I heard cabbage leaves really work, but I never had to use them.

Good luck.

I stopped at four weeks but arsed it up completely and 'didnt have time' to express or anything so of course ended up with mastitus, then abscesses then surgery to drain them doh! moral of the story - do what they did ^^^ not what I did xxx

I stopped at 2 weeks. Just lower your BFing down each day so that you dont go from a full supply to completely stopping. At the end just BF once daily and then stop that also. It worked for me and wasn't uncomfortable at all.

Thanks for your replies girls,Im all sorted now lol It only took a few days for my supply to stop-kinda makes it more obvious to me that my supply wasnt great to start with which is why Jake's weight was such a problem.

I stopped at 2 weeks but was expressing once a day for a week after this till my supply dried up. That really helped. I've heard of the wonders of the cabbage leaf too, altho I didnt try it myself, I've heard that it can really help with the pain and pressure.

I just stopped at 2.5 weeks, went cold turkey.
Yes I was v v v hard for a few days and a bit warm but a couple (!!) of tight bras and a regular dosing of cold and flu pills and it calmed down in 3 days.
However, I did continue to leak first thing in the morning for another 5 weeks and even now at 12 weeks sometimes I notice a little dry milk on one nipple....
