I came down with the flu last night. Called my OB and she called me in Tamiflu to relieve symptoms. The insert says should not be taken during pregnancy. Asked OB about it and she says it is worse for baby to have the flu (because of fever, vomiting, etc). Anyone else taken it while pregnant?

I haven't taken it, but I was exposed within days of ovulating and researched it. My impression is that taking it when you have confirmed flu is a good idea. You have to keep your temperature down, too. I'd make sure to have Tylenol on hand as well. Sorry your sick. I hope you recover quickly.

I got FLU and I was advised to take Tamiflu from my doctor. So I guess it is a normal thing to prescribe this.

I won't touch cold and flu tablets unless they are all natural. They can do damage to LO. I had a chest infection early in the pregnancy and my doctor said 'Nope, your pregnant, no flue tablets, no antibiotics, just panadol and rest'. So I think your OB needs a wake up; if it says not whilst pregnant it usually says it for a reason.

I just noticed that both of us who were prescribed Tamiflu were from USA. Seems like there is a difference in beliefs over the antibiotics and tablets...I also got bronchitis a few weeks ago and my doctor gave me antibiotics and a breathing treatment...makes me wonder sometimes.

From what I can understand antibiotics can cause growth problems with a fetus, especially around the lungs and brain. Australian medical societies have done extensive research into it and they say to avoid antibiotics and flue tablets unless its really bad. My chest infection was stage 2 and my doctor still wouldnt let me near antibiotics; though I feel alot better knowing that for a couple of weeks of sickness I wasnt hurting LO, so I didnt feel guilty like I knew I would have. I even get iffy about taking pandol but parcetemol is a safe pregnancy drug if taken in moderation.

I took it because I couldn't function and I often avoid western medicine completely. I was on a 12 hour international flight with a toddler and with the flu going on vacation.

Take it only if you have to and maybe just at night before bedtime. That is what I did three times.

I hope u understand that in no way was I saying that your statement was false...If anything, I agree with you. I hate taking medication. I usually do not take medication...But I was suffering 1 week with Bronchitis and didnt want to develop pneumonia. I was prescribed the Tamiflu but didnt take it as I didnt like the fact that I had just taken antibiotics the week prior. What I was saying is that lately I have been learning so many things about differences with recommendations between doctors from various countries. For instance, in USA we are told to avoid alcohol during pregnancy but I have read in other forums that some women from other countries have been told a little alcohol doesnt hurt baby. I then find out today when I go to my prenatal appt that my doctor will induce at 41 weeks if LO isnt out by then...he said doctors in USA dont like to let women go past 41 weeks like doctors in other countries...then I hear women from other countries smoke weed during pregnancy but over here in USA smoking weed during pregnancy is seen as dangerous...So I find myself shocked and realize that what my pops told about not believing everything that is told to you and to do research is really a good piece of advice. *sigh* that is all I was getting at. Hope I make sense now.

Oh I knew that, sorry if I came across to formal, I have a tendency to do that when I get all factual haha. Weed is bad in pregnancy here too, but alcohol is allowed in moderation, and they will usually induce between 39-41wks over here.

but yes, it's funny the differences in countries!
