Recently I did research on things to help with PCOS. I have a very mild case of it (I don't have the facial hair, little acne, however I have long and heavy periods) My Menses last 9-10 days and I get AF on CD 26-28. The first 4 days its really light, then on days 5-10 its really heavy with clotting.

Anywho, I did research and came across Metformin as a treatment for PCOS and how it helps with the fertility. I wrote to my fertility specialist yesterday and brought up Metformin to her. She said that she needs to do some fasting lab work on day 5-6 of my period to make her decision whether or not she will place me on Metformin. I'm hoping she does because I read about the research, but I want to know if anyone here has taking it to help with their fertility and got a BFP. If so how long did it take for you to get your BFP?

I've just started Metformin this cycle. I don't have insulin resistance, which is what it sounds like your doctor wants to check for. It can help either way though. This is just my first cycle so no BFP yet obviously. Check out the PCOS board, there are others who've been talking about it there

Thank you! I didn't know there was a PCOS board on here:happydance: I will definitely check this out. I would love to hear how it works for you. I have heard some promising stories about it. I'm hoping if I go on it that I will get a BFP soon after.

Hello, I'm I'm the same boat. This is my first cycle on metformin for pcos.
Be prepared for nausea and gas like never before. Currently I'm at 7dpo so I can't testify yet, but I have had a lot of weight loss in just 3 weeks than I ever would have otherwise.

They probably have to check your insulin resistance and whether or not your liver is up to par for metformin which they did for me.

I'm glad my doctor put me on it immediately, o think it's a great thing for pcos even if you're not ttc. So I would definitely really push for it.

Good luck to you

Hey I was trying for 6 months, got pregnant, unfortunatly had a miscarriage and then 6 months after that started metformin, after 3 cycles I AM PREGNANT. total of 15 months TTC, 3 cycles of metformin DID IT. I, like you have mild PCOS, no weight issues, no hair..some acne but mainly long cycles. good luck!

Thank you so much! I needed to hear this. I know my liver is good because my main doctor did a whole bunch I lab work on me, one was a liver panel and that was really good. I haven't had the chance to do the other labs my regular doctor ordered because those are fasting and to be honest I keep forgetting to fast. Bu I guess I can hold off for another couple weeks because I think it is the same thing my fertility specialist is wanting and the two might cross and might not get the right results. The fertility specialist told me to do it 2-3 days into my period, however I wrote her back and said that the first 4-5 days of my period are really light (almost like spotting) then on day 5 usually it comes on really heavy, so she told me to wait 2-3 days after the heavy bleeding starts.

My father takes it for his diabetes and he has really bad gas, and recently after all these years of him taking it and having bad gas we have come to the conclusion its the Metformin. Do you get it all the time, does it last all day?

I'm wondering, and I had this thought yesterday. My period usually last 10 days...or so I may be thinking. I'm wondering if the first 4-5 days, because its so light that its a light pink, if its actually spotting before the period, and on day "CD 5" its actually CD 1 and my periods really only last 5-6 days and that my cycle lasts 30-33 days. Scratching my head with curiosity on this one.

I'm definitely going to push for it, especially if it will help with my weight.

Thank yo so much for replying to my post :flower: I very recently found out about Metformin helping women with PCOS. I keep thinking to myself the my case of PCOS is mild/moderate and I fear that its going to cut down on the ability of me getting pregnant. That so amazing that after 3 cycles you got pregnant! Congrats on your little bundle of joy! I'm so happy for you. I hope to be in that boat soon. My symptoms of PCOS is weight (heavy set but have been kicking up the exercise), a little bit of acne (usually around the time my period is due), and long cycles/periods. Has yours gotten worse with age? I know mine has as far as long cycles/periods go.

hey hun, im on my 4th cycle of Metformin. I didnt get pregnant but after 3 months of use, i went back to my endo and my LH:FSH ratio went from 5:1 to 2:1, so in 3 months thats a huge improvement.

Endo said 2 months, u will be pcos free but i didnt wanna wait and asked for clomid.

My pcos s called mild too and i started with 1500mg, then third month i tried 2000mg without telling my doc. However, i have to take 1500 after my appointment with doctor because doc said 1500-2000 doesnt matter and pills are counted lol My theory is that 2000mg works better! thats what may55 was taking.

This is the pcos thread, there are others taking metformin if you wanna join

Thanks for writing hun. I am going to see how the Metformin works and if I'm not noticing anything in 3 months I think I will ask about the clomid. I have heard of it but not sure what you do with it, is it a shot or a pill? How do you take it? And of course is it covered by health insurance? The fertility specialist is going to do blood tests on me and it has to be in a certain time frame I need to get it done. She will base the possibility of me going in Metformin off the blood results. I'm hoping she will place me on it.

We recently decided to TTC (last month) this is going to be try #2 later this week, but I think it's pushing it way to close to my O day. He's a long distance truck driver and works 2-3 weeks on and only has 2 days off (Saturday and Sunday) so it makes it hard to TTC. So Its going to take everything I can get my hands on to get a BFP

Clomid is in pill form, 5 little pills I paid 42 Canadian dollars for. My insurance didn't cover it but it covers metformin. I don't think fertility drugs are covered:(

First as ur Doctor what hormones are causing problem, for example my only problem was having high LH and had to reduce my insulin levels to reduce LH production. That's why I took metformin and went on pcos diet where I got sugar. Ask your doctor what's the problem and do some research, read about hormones then it won't be so overwhelming.

everytime DH is home, try getting BD done. Sperm can live up to 5 days! How is ur cm? If u don't get good amount of cm, use preseed to keep sperms healthy and live longer.

I'll see about the Clomid and how much it costs. I don't think I have a high LH, I'm actually wondering if mine is low because OPKs barely show, unless it's still early to be doing the OPK. Still learning about a lot of things. My CM at this moment is watery. It just becomes watery today. Yesterday it was still sticky and kinda thick. I don't recall having the EWCM...they say though that some women don't get that.

I think pcos means elevated LH, urs might be in normal range and it's still early for positive opk.

Yea most woman don't get ewcm and that's why preseed is commonly used.
