My boy who's 10 months had one in October and again last week,He had the all clear from the last one after aft havin scans and think we goin to have to go through it all again. My gp said they r uncommon in boys and starting to worry something is wrong

You're in the UK.. wondering if your son is intact or not. If he is intact, if anybody's been forcefully retracting him, that could be the cause of a UTI.

My 9 week old had one at 5 weeks and is waiting to have a micturating cystogram which I am hoping is normal procedure after a UTI?
I was told UTI's were less common in boys which is why they do follow up scans and tests.

I am sure there's nothing to be worried about...keep us posted.

Oh...and there's no pulling back of any skin on my boy :nope:

Me and my daughter have kidney problems that lead to recurrent uti's, they are less common in boys as they have a longer uretha and further for the bacteria to travel to bladder...

if they are prone to uti's avoid using bubble baths, change nappies very regular aswell...hopefully any underlyin problem will be picked up on scans, hopefully its nothin long term xx

My little cousin who is 4 months old has had 2 utis and they have diagnosed him with VUR and a bendy ureter. The last uti was really bad, it almost killed him and he had to have a vesicotomy. But now he is doing great and will have the operation to reverse the vesicotomy when he is 1.

Its definetely worth getting further testing esp as your lo has had 2 already. It could just be a kink in his urinary tract where bacteria can grow, or a faulty valve. He might need to be on a low dose antibiotic for a little while.

My son has a problem with his urethra so has had two UTIs so far. The first he was hospitalised with and had a scan which showed his left kidney is damaged. We've also had the micturating cystogram which is used to determine what is happening to the urine in the bladder. However it wasn't conclusive for us so now we're waiting for a further test to work out what's going on and what the damage to his kidney is.

He's fine day to day and a very happy baby. He's on antibiotics to keep infections away.

Oh I meant to add that I'm pretty sure my boy picked up his second in hospital as it was a multiple resistant strain that's uncommon. The doc was very surprised he'd got it.

Urgh my boy is now 17 weeks and we are on our THIRD uti :hissy:

No reflux or blockage...kidneys are no longer slightly enlarged either

Was told may never know why he's having them. He's on a weeks course of abx then until further notice a low dose daily.

Yep, my little boy did at 4 weeks old but it was because he had PUVs which caused kidney reflux, which caused the UTI. He has been on antibiotics almost two years now.

Hopefully it isn't caused by any renal issues!

Thanks ladies, we went back 2 weeks ago to see the consultant and they going to test to see if its reflux,I'm dreading it as the test involves a tube going up his private bits

Aw poor baby. It's hard to see our babies go through medical procedure, mine has gone under general anaesthesia twice. But at least they won't remember any of it, I think it's more traumatizing for us as mums. Let us know how he gets on xxx

Is he on a low dose every night? When will you be able to stop?

Elliott had this done four weeks ago, they put a bit of local anaesthetic on his penis, he wasn't distressed at all. He has had to have a catheter inserted three times to get urine to test for infections bless him. He was a bit crabby the rest of the day and the next day too so it might have been a little bit sore.

Let us know how you get on though

Yes, he is currently on 2.6ml every night. From a medical view until he is 5 years old but from a surgical view until he is 3 or out of nappies. Just have to wait and see!

What surgery will he need? What are PUV's? Can I ask what meds he's on? Only because Elliott's on cefalaxin 3.2ml in the evening (once he's done a week on 5ml twice a day) and I was told the dose is weight related?

He has had his surgery, almost 2 years ago at 5 weeks old. PUVs are Posterior Urethral Valves, basically valves in his urethra creating a narrowing/blockage and thus reflux, but they were shaved down at 5 weeks old. It is weight related but they are on different medicines which might explain it? Jason is on Trimethoprim. I hope your wee boy is okay! X

Ah makes sense...Elliott doesn't have reflux or blockage and his infections are resistant to trimethoprim

I'm sure it's just a blip and one of those things. Just annoying if there's no obvious reason so can't treat/deal with it.

That must be so frustrating! I am in a few PUV/hydronephrosis Facebook groups and a lot of mums say their LO had to change from Trimethoprim because it didn't work! X
