Are chilled out babies in the womb more likely to be chilled out when they are born?

Hey there,

I was wondering what people thought. A friend of mine has 2, 1 was really chilled at all scans and when born was the most chilled out relaxed child ever. The other was pretty active in all scans and when born was a lot more work.

DD was a little madam with any scan wands, dopplers or other equipment when I was pregnant with her, she'd kick it away, squirm to get away etc. DD is quite high maintenance so I'm wondering was this a sign of things to come?? I had a scan with this LO at 11 weeks and he/she just snoozed away not moving, I had another scan today at 14 weeks and LO was snoozing again. The consultant gave my tummy a few good jabs to wake baby up (ouch) and baby sort of wriggled a bit in protest and then got back to chilling out!

I'm wondering have other people experienced this?

Ooh, good question. I'd love to know peoples' thoughts on this one!

my son was super chill in the womb, to the point of being a week over due with no signs of labor .... he was not a fussy baby at all but man is he hyper!

I had this chat with my sonographer stangely enough, as my girl is a right little mover. my nana said my mum was constantly on the move in the womb, kicking day and night. my aunt however barely moved, just did one big turn a day. my mum is super active, highly strung, always on the go. my aunt however is so chilled out to the point of being horizontal! so I guess it counts for something! x

both my boys were very active while i was pregnant and are both very chilled out happy boys.
corey was born in water and hes even more relaxed, he isnt bothered by baths or bum changes which is great and makes my job easier lol

My baby was hyper in the womb ,day and night he would move, but now he is here he is so content and seems v relaxed, though he was 4 weeks early so that could be part of the reason but so far he is opposite to what he was like in the womb!

I dont know if they turn out laid back but i sure hope so! My baby was sleepy at my 12 week scan. The sonographer kept trying to wake baby up, which she did for a minuet, but baby went back to sleep. Much like daddy. I have also never been kicked yet! I feel baby roll over and stretch out maybe (it will hurt in one spot for like a minuet) all the time but no kicks or sudden movements. It would be nice if baby was a calm one, i would not complain.

LO was mad! She shocked the midwives when i went in to be checked for something cos she moved 40+ times in 20 mins lol. She was about to go get the doc n had to stop her n say its fine shes always like this.... however when she was born.. she slept.. didnt eat she slept, slept through her first bath midwife had never ever seen this lol she kinda "woke up" at 6 weeks but was still super chilled! She likes to keep busy now (2 y/o) always on the go but she isnt really high maintenence just a busy bee xxx

Bit of a mix of responses here, very interesting so I've added a poll :) Makes it easier to see what people think :flower:

Hmmm, will be interesting to find out! I haven't felt any movement yet, so can't really give my view lol. But at the 12 week scan Squirt kept wriggling while tech was trying to take measurements, and then when she was done and she tried to let us just watch for a few minutes the little bugger went to sleep haha. Sucking it's fingers and everything haha (very cute!) so not quite sure what to think about that, except I think bubs will be awkward like DH (it was the awkwardness that made me feel like it's a boy lol) XD.

XxX

My little girl was a crazy mover and at 6 yrs old now, she still hasnt stopped. I have video of her from belly to toddler of her little feet moving away, even in sleep.

Today during prenatal, our little one kicked the doc so we might have another one just like that. :)

My son was a wild one in the womb-- the dr said, "He's a pistol!"-- and after he was born was just the same. Never slept, always screaming about something... So I think your theory is right. :)
This one so far is more calm... but it's early yet. :)

My friend with two little girls has said her babies were squirmy in the womb and they're all over the place outside of it (but adorable)!

My daughter was really relaxed in the womb and when she was born she was the same. However, she is a very high maintenance, active toddler. So the theory proved correct in her case...for 18 months at least. :haha:

Hahaha i def think so!!! Cameron was so chilled out it actually worrying lol i literally only got kicked once in my whole pregnancy and he was asleep at every scan (i had 17 nhs scans and one gender scan lol) he is now such a content easy baby. He never fusses and is happy just to do whatever :) this baby seems a lot more active lol i was actually shocked to see him move at scans lol i have had 5 scabs already and i never get a good picture coz he moves so much lol def think this baby is gonna be a particulary difficult baby lol. Xxxx

Evie was a wriggler in the womb, but was chilled out when she was born! Now she never stops :haha: so I'm not to sure!

My dd was WILD in the womb and is very dramatic now, haha! My first son was calm in the womb and he is very layed back. My second son was also very calm in the womb but is WILD now, so I don't think the theory is always correct.

This baby is a girl and so far is very active so we will see!

I had 12 scans. My baby was chilled on some and active on others. He's the same now. Chilled at times and hard work at others.

I am not sure about in utero... but when my son was JUST born and in the NICU, he would get SO mad when they touched him or changed his diaper. His nurses always joked about his temper. They even had to sedate him for the first 9 days of his life because he would get all worked up and wouldnt calm down. And now at 13 months, he is the the most EASY baby ever.

My first son was extremely active in the womb. When the midwife put the doppler bands around my tummy in third tri, she would constantly have to readjust cos he kept wriggling. The sonographer referred to him as a 'wild child' at my scans. Since being born he is certainly still a wriggly little bug, but super content, relaxed, wonderfully good little boy. Always sleeps through the night, and happy. He's just nosy and likes to move around alot lol.

This baby is chilled in utero, doesn't move during scans except to stretch and yawn. I do wonder how this will play out when he's born. I'd be far too lucky to have two easy babies lol.
