hi ladies:flower:.

when talking to my neighbour that were gonna get the base for our carseat for 2 reasons:
1. it wont fit with just the belt
2. for quickness-just clip on and go

she then goes on to tell me that.... carseat bases are not safe atall and that in an accident they split in half .

this is the first ive heard

im guessing she is wrong

I didn't think you could install a carseat without the base?

If that was the case they wouldn't sell them! If in doubt, you can check safety reviews of each carseat online. She's talking out of her arse : / xx

First I heard hun, I'm sure there would be more about it if that was the case. Iirc it's safer to use a base.

I'm SURE more people would know about this if there were any truth to it. Everyone I know uses a base for their car seats. We have it too and even got an extra one to keep one in my car and one in DH's car so there's never any hassle to take LO in either car we want.

thats what i thought :/

ive never ever heard of this... were getting the surefix adjustable base as our car doesnt have isofix, the reviews online seem ok mention nothing about splitting :/

we were having trouble trying to install it before we realised it was because of the belts we thought we were doing it wrong.... they tried installing it for us and installed it half hanging off the seat, and then another neighbour with her told me and OH to ignore the carseat instructions and just to install it anyway around to get it in to fit :/ surely thats more unsafe lol!!

out of curiosity (sp) me and OH tried installing in the front seats, it cant be used in the front though because of airbag! but we just wanted to see if it fitted.....for some reason the carseat fits perfectly in the front seat and the seatbelt is the perfect size :/ how odd!!! typical and just our luck, that it fits lovely in the one place we cant use it lol

Have you tried the centre seat (if you have a 3 point seat belt)?

in the instruction manual it says to use on the end seats only :(

did cross my mind though- thankyou xx

Get a seatbelt extender? x

we went to halfords and they told us that car seat extenders are not safe as they create a weak point and would snap in an accident on impact :nope:.

im not sure if this is correct or they are just trying to get us to spend more with them? :dohh:.

i dont know if id wanna risk it just incase they are right:blush:

xx

Weird that it says end seats only.... middle is safest for your baby.

As for bases.... that's rubbish they don't split!

is it really? would it hurt then if i tried it out in the middle seat ?

i might double check with mamas and papas then if its safest in middle perhaps ive misread or theyve made a typing error :)

I wouldn't if it says end seats only. Uk seats are different to Us seats, a lot of uk middle seats only have lap belts.

Yes that's true! That's why all the shops sell them so we can put our babies lives at risk!

Silly woman is talking out of her back side!

i think we'll stick with the base.... but out of interest ive just looked on a child car safey uk site and it also says the middle seat is the safest, ours does have a 3 point harness for all the seat including middle

i might go double check the instructions incase ive read wrong :dohh:

Seats with bases get much higher safety ratings than the same seat without. At least that was the case for the two we looked at (Britax babysafe ii shr and maxi cosi cabriofix). I also heard the same about seat belt extenders after looking into it because of the really short seat belts in OH's car x

so long as the base of the seat is flat in the centre and theres a 3 point belt then its safe hun they might say only the end seats in the instructions to cover that older model cars in the UK often dont have 3 point belts in the centre

For our daughter we had her base in the car in the middle. We were hit pretty hard by a large truck. Both my husband and I had whip lash and were very sore. Our daughter slept theoh the whole thing and both her car seat and base were fine. We got them checked at the fire station to make sure we could keep using them and we were told they was no damage what so ever and that it was good we had her in the middle seat because it was safest. As long as your base is secured properly i cant see it being a problem.

Just tried the middle belt and its even smaller than the side ones :(

Looks like the base is a must :) xxx
