I have been thinking recently of getting some maternity photos taken and was wondering are they really worth it? The place would go to even offers free newborn photos if have maternity done with them. And I deffinitely want newborn ones taken. For those ladies who have had them done already or in past pregnancies, were they worth the money?

I think it's nice to have pictures of you when you're pregnant, but I however HATE my face right now. I put on weight and one of the first places was my face. To me, I don't look like me and I don't want pictures of my face at all. I have pictures of me and my belly that I will keep as personal memories, but not something I want to frame LOL I already scheduled newborn pictures as I think those are amazing!

Worth the money if you get a good photographer - just be cautious with the guys charging money because they 'think' they are a photographer after they bought some schmancy camera at Best Buy, lol! Basically, don't spend the money on photos your friend or your uncle can take. . .but do spend the money on quality professional photos from a photographer that really understands and knows lighting, composition, AND how to make a pregnant lady not only FEEL beautiful, but LOOK beautiful on camera!

As a professional photographer I can't count the number of times I've been thanked by clients who had maternity done about how much they love and appreciate the photos.

See, we're all at a time where we feel huge and fat but everybody tells us we are beautiful. . .it's hard to see that until you get some beautiful photos of your bump! If you only have money for one or the other, I'd say newborn photos trump maternity, but if you get both then yes yes yes, do it! ! !

i think they're lovely but can't afford them, but i've been taking some of my own using self timer on the camera (and i've got a new camera which takes good pics) so that'll do for me :) same when baby comes. but i'm quite into photography (amaturishly!) so i think i'm gonna get a background screen & do my own baby shoot when he arrives :cloud9:

Totally worth it. You don't have to spend a fortune either, will try and load one that I had done at 36 weeks. I only spent £40 on m mine, didn't want big prints and she didn't insist on frames at extra cost etc. I mainly wanted some of my bump and my daughter, to help their bond.

Don't plan on a further baby so it's a nice keepsake xx

i got them done at 28 weeks when my bump was a lot smaller and i loveeee them. the package i got includes newborn photos too. at the end of newborn session photographer will make a book. but it was $400 lol

Yes I realize there are just way too many people out there who do this. I am a professional photographer though and so can very quickly distinguish between the real and the wannabe's. I just can't do my own because I don't do people at all and don't have the lighting for it either. This one I am looking at is rated top 5 in all of southern California so he is very very good, and uses top quality equipment and can do studio or on location.

I wish I could do my own but I just don't have the propper lighting or reflectors for it so I fear they wouldn't come out as well as I hoped. Although I do have the camera, tripod, lenses etc. Also I don't have a clue on photographing people and so wouldn't have a clue as to how to pose myself. Is your avatar pic one that you took yourself? It is beautiful.
