Good afternoon ladies. I know different places do different things at the hospital, but in case someone does know....I am in Virginia and will be having a scheduled section. Do they pin your arms down normally if everything is good with the section and do they let you hold your baby right when they are born, or just in recovery?
I really want to be the first one to hold my baby (because of a previous emergency C-section) I was out and didn't get to hold my 1st until he was 3 months (he was 33 1/2 weeks when born). So I really need to be the first one opposed to my husband and not sure how normal C-sections work.
Thanks for any input ladies.

Hi! They don't tie your hands down like you are in a mental hospital or anything like that. They have you put both arms out and put gentle tape around to help keep them in place. After my baby was born, they washed her off and then let me see her but I could not hold her. Once they finished sewing me up and brought me into the recovery room, I got to hold her. I think there are medical reasons why they want your arms out. You could ask your husband to refrain from holding her until you get to if you want.

I'm in the uk and they just literally lay you on the operating "table", you're not strapped or held down. Also I couldn't hold lo right away but mine was emcs so oh held her first, I've read from other women though that you can be the first if all goes well and to ask for this at the hospital.

Good luck xx

My arms weren't held down. I had a blood pressure cuff on one arm and a cannula in the other but they were both free for me to move around and hold my husband's hand.

I'm in WI and they asked me if I would like my hands pinned down...I don't remember what they used but I said they could because it was my first C section and I had no idea what my reaction would be so I felt safer that way but either way I wouldn't have been able to hold LO until I was in my recovery room...DH was the only person that was allowed to hold her or meet her before me (I had family lurking the hallways outside the OR and nursery lol) I got to see her before they took her out of the OR and on my way past the nursery they brought her to me to see.

I'm in the US and they did not tie my arms down, I also got to hold my lo in the OR after they cleaned him up some and swaddled him. So it just depends on the hospital.

Same as this :) hubby held him first but then I got to hold him whilst whilst I was wheeled to recovery.

I did not have my arms tied down, but LO was taken to the NICU and I didn't get to hold him for over 24 hours.

i didnt have my arms tied down and i got them to remove the drapes as she was born so i saw her arrival :) also they just quickly dried her and placed her onm e, so i got the first hold as well. just ask!

I requested immediate skin to skin and my arms weren't tied down...

I got the first hold and skin to skin and then dh held him for ten while I finished off then another 4 hours skin to skin
