I am breastfeeding my 8 week ols ans so far she has not even put on 2lbs yet. The HV have worked it out at an average of 3oz per week and seem to be happy at this. She feeds every couple of hours and i have had to give her a top up of formula as she doesnt seem satisfied after her feeds,

I think it sounds like you're doing great!! There's no need for them to get chunky fast. As long as you have adequate wet diapers, she's doing great.

However, I would recommend holding off on formula top ups right now. Let the baby build your supply herself. This is a crucial period where she can have growth spurts at any time, so let the baby continue to stimulate you. It's the best way for your supply to grow. If she seems unsatisfied, keep putting her back on the breast. Your supply will catch up in no time! :)

Sounds like you are doing great hun, don't worry.

Leni was 4lbs 14 1/2oz when he was born and he was 6lbs 1oz on Monday and he is completely breastfed.

You say she doesn't feel satisfied after feeds?

The formula may have caused you to have low milk supply. That's really common; and retracting the formula is hard. As you reduce the formula you'll need to keep an eye on output (nappies) to check that baby is still getting enough input.

Another possibility is that actually you've got oversupply. Sometimes when a baby gets too much foremilk their tummy gets full and they are unsettled by wind, colicky refluxy symptoms, they grow well, but their poo is often green and liquid, their bottoms sore. Because they never get to the hind milk they seem constantly unsettled.

Do either of these ring any bells?

I know at the breastfeeding clinics I go to they typically want to see a 6-8oz gain every week in BF'd babies.

I had the same problem.
I had to be put on a lactation "helper"
and It worked soo much.
You milk supply is also still getting bigger and bigger.
Nurse your baby as much as you can even if you have no milk it will help produce more.
Or if you an spend a day in bed and feed baby almost all day.
that what I did and now I have SOO much milk
