I was having a sort through the clothes I already have today, and I only have 1 first size outfit, 3 first size bodysuits and 3 first size sleepsuits (first size is up to 7lb 8oz) and I don't intend to buy anymore, they are too take to the hospital incase she is smaller. I have plenty of up to 1 month(up to 10lb) and again plenty of 0-3months.
Do you think having so little first size is silly? I know I've done this before, but honestly feel like the minor details such as how many clothes I had, in different sizes has been erased from my brain:blush:
I have a feeling this baby is going to be bigger, as I'm already the size I was full term with my first. daughter, and it's not like all shops will shut the day I give birth right?

How much did your L/O weigh, what clothes size did they wear when they were first born and for how long? Thanks in advance:flower:

DD was in newborn clothing for the first month and a half; I definitely didn't buy enough to be prepared! 0-3 month looked silly/huge on her for the first few weeks. She was 6 lb 8 oz. :)

Next time I'm buying more of the newborn size just in case we have another small one. I figure that if the baby doesn't wear them I can just donate them to charity and help some other ladies out.

Have you checked secondhand stores? You might be able to stock up on a couple more pieces just in case you need them without spending a lot of money. :flower:

My daughter was in new born clothes (up to ten pounds) for maybe 7/8 weeks she was 6.12 at birth. Tiny baby would probably have fitted her for a few weeks but I didn't see the point in getting them.

I probably wouldn't get any more first sizes in your case and get up to 1 month and 0-3 x

Do you have lots of friends/family support? I think if you are going to be able to give a friend or family member some money and get them to go get more clothes in the first few days after the birth you will be fine. If not I would probably just get some short sleeved stretch n grow's in newborn size so you at least you know the base layer fits your LO and will keep the heat in well.

DS was 7lb3 and was in prem then newborn clothes for the first 8 weeks, DD was 7lb1 and was in newborn clothes for 5 days max. I was much better at BFing second time round:haha:

Also, I was much bigger with DD than with DS and she came out smaller so I wouldn't judge based on bump size.

We had newborn baby grows and vests which lasted a good month, we had up to one month size baby grows, vests and clothes (which she wore until 3 months!), and I also bought a couple of tiny/early baby dresses 'just incase' - she ended up wearing those for I think 6 weeks, even though she was 8lbs!

She's in 0-3 now, and they still fit, just the dresses are quite short so we wear trousers most days at the minute... 3-6 really drowns her.

X

Personally, I'd say it might be worth getting a few more, only because the time it would take to wash and dry new clothes might just be a hassle to save a few quid. You don't need any actual outfits, but bodysuits and sleepsuits might be handy. I know in our house it can take 2 days for clothes to dry. My daughter was 6lbs 9oz and even the new baby stuff was huge on her. She was in it until 3 months and could fit into most of her 0-3 month stuff until 6 months. She was on the smaller side at birth (25th centile), but was at around 60th centile at 3 months and still fit her sleepsuits just fine. At the rate they go through clothes at the start with lots of poos, I think it's worth having a few extras. You can always gift them to someone else if you end up having a huge baby who never fits them. Even if you get a week's use out of them, it's probably worth it.

When you say newborn clothes, is that first size(up to 7lb 8oz) or up to 1 month(up to 10lb) because I have plenty of clothes up to 10lb, it's just stocking up on the 7lb 8oz clothes I'm wary of because babies can be born over that!:flower:
But thanks for the advice so far ladies, money isn't really the issue we can afford more first size, but 7lb 8oz seems such a small limit I didn't think it would be worth it:shrug: I do have plenty of family around if I need more, but it's better to be prepared beforehand, one less thing to worry about!

Newborn is usually up to 8 lbs here I think. Maybe stock up on just the basics for the first size just in case?

I would get a few more inexpensive onesies and vests just in case. I had to stay in for a couple of days after DD arrived and DH didn't wash anything so it was useful to have a few extra on hand x

Thanks ladies, I really can't remember what it was like with my first daughter. She was 6lb15, so I know she was in newborn but I don't remember this first size, and up to 1 month stuff:wacko: I'll have to grab a few more:flower:

My son was 8lb 3 and newborn fitted him for a few weeks...3 maybe? (Considering he's only 7 weeks I should know that!) I wouldnt buy a load of stuff in newborn size, my daughter was also 6lb 15!

My little girl was 7lb12 when she was born and she still fits in some of her first size clothes! I definitely didn't have enough.. I was told by a few people that you don't need that many first size 'cause before you know it they've grown out of them but that's just not been the case for us. She needed first size in everything for at least the first week, then up to 1 month was a good fit for a while. And like I said she still fits in some of her first size stuff now. I think everywhere's different.. like she's in "up to 3 months" in Tesco sleepsuits now and has been for a while, yet a lot of her clothes are still first size and she's only just moving into 0-3 in Next clothes.

I'd just have a few sleepsuits and vests in first size - like maybe 5 vests and 5 sleepsuits - then see how you get it on when baby arrives. I ended up having to send my mum for some emergency clothes!

Also I think every baby is different (obv!) My DD grew out of a lot of things in the leg because she's got long legs.

We thought DD would be 9 or 10 lbs so I had no newborn clothes. She was 8lbs 7oz at birth and 0-3 month were way too big surprisingly so I had my MIL get a few newborn onesies. I think she was only in them for 3 weeks

My sons didn't wear newborn sizes for long, maybe a couple weeks? But they were both pretty pukey so I went through several shirts per day (until I just decided to keep them swaddled in cloth :)). I agree it might be beneficial to get a few cheap ones just in case!

My son was 9lb4 born and he still fit into newborn for 3 weeks or so but the newborn stuff I had said for up to 9lb or something roughly around that weight. I think it is important to remember that all shops sizes vary quite a lot too.

DD was in prem for 6 weeks, then in newborn until 5 months and she is in 1 to 3 months at 8.5 months. Anything can happen. :)

I had one pack of newborn, but son was born 9.12lbs so he was in it for a day and moved on to 0-3 ha ha. Would have been a waste of money for me! Xx

My lo was in newborn for 8-9 weeks, I'd definitely buy more vests and babygrows if I were you x

Thank you ladies, I think I'll pick up at least another packet so I have six of the bodysuits and sleepsuits. At least then if she is smaller, there isn't going to be a mad rush to grab some more! It sounds like unless i have a 10lber, first size will be needed, silly me:blush:
Chipsticks: in all the excitement of giving birth, I thought they had made a mistake, I said 'i thought it only went up to 13oz' albeit I felt very stupid:haha:
