My baby is 5 months old and has to go for an EEG tomorrow. I'm a little nervous as I don't know what the test consists of and what they will do.

Has anyone elses LO gone for one before and if so could you fill me in?

I only know about them because my dad did them for years.

bsically they attach these... wires(unsure what they're called) to multiple places, I think most of them are on the head, ie forehead, back of head..
And I believe the test is to measure brain waves..

thats all I kno hope it helps

I hope it isn't a sleep deprived eeg...good luck

No it's not a sleep deprived EEG but they didn't tell me how long it will take.

As AC1987 mentioned the most I know about it is that they will put several probes on LO's head. They didn't say how long it will take, if he will have to do anything other than sit and that's the main worry: how do I get my LO to stay still for the test. I've heard it can be anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours

LO has had a couple episodes where he chokes on milk and then becomes unresponsive for several minutes. It's as if he has gone into a deep sleep and is impossible to wake up. It's been quite scary when it happens and at this point the only thing the dr. could point to are possible seizures.

Hello :)

My daughter had an EEG last month. She was awake for it and they glued 16 electric thingies to her head (which they had marked) and then laid her down to start the test, they also recorded it. Altogether took just over an hour. They did a sequence of flashing lights, then let her sleep for a bit before having to wake her up.

I'm not sure about sleeping tests but she was ok, hated being poked and prodded but after 2 weeks of it, it's understandable!

Good luck with your babies tests

:flower:

My lo has been doing this too. Also having episodes of unresponsiveness in bed.. We had an ecg/ekg done but not an eeg.. I think that's gotta be my next step. But yeah, it's a harmless test with electrodes stuck to the head :) hope you get some answers.. It's terrifying I know.. :(

Riley had an EEG on the 8th January. He had 25 electrodes stuck to his hair (Poor mite?). Then they put the TV on for him to watch, and monitored his brain activity for a while. Towards the end they flashed a load of lights in front of him . x

My LO hasn't had it done by I had it done myself. I had a couple of episodes of passing out and my then doctor was over dramatic and ordered an EEG. Basically they connected electrodes to my skull and took a buncha readings and sent it to a lab. I was awake for it.

The result came back saying nothing was wrong. I found out later on (after switching doctors) that it was a heat stroke.

Good luck with your LO's EEG....I'm sure he'll be ok *hugs*

Thanks for your replies ladies!

Well, we went for the test and it went pretty much as some of you stated...minus the flashing lights, etc. So proud of my adorable little boy. He smiled on and off through the whole hour long procedure, didn't cry at all and was even ok being with two techs by himself for 30 minutes while they hooked him up and monitored his brain activity. The one tech was very sweet and he obviously took a liking to her so that helped ten fold!

Now the anxiety producing part...waiting for test results..really hope everthing is ok.
