Do I need one of these? LO will be in my room until he's at least 1. I have it on one of my many lists. Wondering if it's actually necessary..

I think we are going to get a cheapie one. My friend said she sprung for a top of the line one, and it's so strong that she picks up her neighbours and all sorts of noises, and now never uses it. I think I'd like to have the option, but we have a small bungalow, so I doubt it'll be a necessity at first.

We haven't bought one because the only time she will be left alone is when I need to nip out of the room for a minute or 2. She will also be in our room for the first 6 months so will buy one when I feel we need one :)

What if the baby is napping and you want to take a bath or go into another part of the house? I would still get one just in case... Better to be prepared.. I have one because baby is going to have his own room from the start, but I would probably have gotten a cheaper one without video if he was sleeping in my room like that.

It depends, we don't have one as we live in a flat so can hear everything although when we move we will.

You've just gotta think if baby will be with you all the time. Like will you put baby in his moses upstairs whilst your downstairs? If so, get one. Or will you keep him downstairs and take him up when you go to bed? If so, maybe its not necessary just yet.

Some parents like them just for peace of mind and use the sensor mats though they can be a pain and cause panic for no reason.

xx

I am paranoid by nature and bought an Angelsounds.

im not going too get one cause my LO will always be with me and not left upstairs :)

I got an Angelsounds--it monitors movement as well...pretty expensive but will give me some peace of mind (hopefully, lol). Worth it I think to have a movement monitor.

It totally depends on you hun.. I'll be getting a cheaper priced one just in case

I also bought the angel sounds one. Along with the movement sensor, I liked that it told me the temp in the room that baby is in...saves me having to go into the room to check it x x

My breathing and sound monitor was top of my list after cot and car seat. I spent hours awake at night worrying about dd and watched her sleep to make sure she was still breathing. Until I bought a breathing monitor then I was able to relax.

Complete personal choice really. x

My DS is coming up to 2 years old and we have found the monitor indispensible! We still use it in his room every night and during his afternoon nap. His room is at the front of the house, our bedroom is at the back - during the night we'd never hear him if he cried, had a stuffy nose, or whatever. Same when we're downstairs when he goes to bed at about 7:30pm, we usually watch a bit of TV later in the evening - would definitely not hear him cry without the monitor. We have a Tomy Digital (sound only).

Have now bought another monitor for baby 2 so that we can continue to use one in DS' room! Bought a Tomy video this time because it was cheaper in an end-of-line sale than the audio-only ones! Have tried it out in DS' room and will miss being able to see him when we go back to his original sound monitor!!

When i'm home on my own, I have to put DS in his cot with toys when i have a shower (no way I could leave him wandering the house!), so i take the monitor in the bathroom then. We use it so often we couldn't be without it. It also has a temperature display which I don't use religiously but it gives an idea of whether the room is too hot or too cold.

Over Christmas, DS was unwell with a cold. Before any other symptoms (ie. we didn't know he had a cold/chesty thing), he was really short of breath at about 1:00am and he got quite distressed. Without the monitor on in our room, we'd never have known.

It's everyone's individual decision, and does depend on the layout of your house and whether you'd hear LO without the monitor, but we certainly wouldn't and for me it's been essential. Having said that, I don't think you need top of the range. I'd go for mid-range (£50 ish). :flower:

Baby will be in our room until it outgrows the moses basket and we will be bringing the moses basket downstairs for day time naps too. We have bought a monitor, the tommee tippee monitor with sensor mat, we only bought it this early as it was half price in the amazon sale and was only £50 instead of over £100. It is still in the box and I am sure will stay in the box until LO is in it's own room xx

I am definitely getting one of those clip on baby movement monitors for my twins. And since these haven't got a very loud alarm I might also look into an Angelsound pad one for nights. I might be paranoid but my OH has apnoea and the thought that my little boys might have inherited it somehow is something that frightens me terribly.

We live in a maisonette so its a bit like a small house. Its very easy to hear upstairs from our living room [I can hear next door turning on their bathroom light!]. Upstairs is quite small so ds room is right next to ours and it is easy to hear through the wall.

We were given a baby monitor and only used it a few times. If we lived in a much bigger place I think it might of got used more so I think it probably depends on the layout/size of your home.

If your not sure maybe try and pick up a second hand one on ebay :flower:
