Popping in from 3rd tri to see if any second time moms have suggestions...

So I am trying to get a gauge on when it is realistic to be concerned and call the doctor about babys movements.

I am 29 weeks Monday and I haven't been able to notice a schedule for baby. She seems to move whenever the heck she wants. Sometimes get moves are strong and sometimes they seem small and far away.

If I went by my worry level...I swear I would call the doc every other day. Lol. I worry alllll of the time about her movement and if it's enough.

Just looking to see if any of you ladies feel the same way...or if you have a realistic way to gauge what is normal. I also don't want to test her with sugary drinks all the time bc that's not healthy. Any advice...empathy...suggestions totally welcome! I feel like I am going nuts!

I think the general rule is that you're supposed to sit or lie quietly for an hour and count the kicks (this can be kicks, rolls, swirls, nudges or any kind of movement) and as long as there have been 10 or more, it's normal.
With my first pregnancy, I noticed a pattern of kicks throughout the day and night from around 32 weeks or so. He would ALWAYS kick like crazy and wake me up at 3am and he was ALWAYS up for a night feed at 3am when he was born! x

If you dont want to try with sugary drinks, try ice cold water it works way better! :hugs:

I'm not really noticing a pattern specifically..it's just movement throughout the day sometimes lots in an hour then I'll go for a while without noticing anything. With me it's harder because I'm having twins so sometimes it's tough to differentiate between the two. :)

My DD never really had a pattern for her movements, she generally wasn't the biggest mover anyway (comparing her to others i've spoken to who say their babies never seemed to stop moving in utero!) I think she just used to sleep a LOT lol, but a drink of cold water (as a pp suggested) would always do the trick to wake her up so I could check all was well. Nevertheless she did scare me a few times! I'm kinda hoping for a more active one this time, though I may eat my words later on when he/she is waking me up in the night having a rave! :haha:

My son barely moved. Roughly he would wake mid- morning and I'd feel him stir then probably nothing all day until between 10-11pm when he would have a mad half hour and I would see twitching. I found prodding him the most successful thing to get a response, rather than food or drink. He also really responded to the cat's purring and soft padding. He'd tap back. :) I just accepted that he didnt move much and that was normal for him. Do you have an anterior placenta? I did and I do feel it masked a lot of movement. That and the fact I'm a petite lady, who had a small bump, a short torso and a long, 8lb baby born at 39wks!! He could never kick and thrash around as he ran out of room very quickly!

My son did the same to me...inconsistent movement all the way. As long as I felt SOMETHING every day, here and there, I had to be satisfied.

Fast forward 2 years and he is a VERY lively two year old! Just didn't move a lot in the womb, that I could feel.

Agree. My son is like a Labrador now! Constantly on the go. :)

I've just turned 19weeks and all of a sudden it's like I've swallowed a kangaroo! :/

I'm a first time mum too with anterior placenta so it can make movement even more inconsistent. My girl doesn't really have a pattern either but she's gives hard kicks sometimes and then smaller movements. I think as earthmama said As long as you feel some movement it shouldn't really matter too much x
