I'm sure I'm not the only one as I hear so many Max's, Leos, Teddys, George's in the park attached to a lead then see the same names on my daughters preschool register.

But what do people think about naming their unborn child when they've just found out a neighbours dog has the same name :(

I quite like Jasper AND was on my list to begin with but recently found out one of my neighbours in the street has a dog names jasper...

Bit too close?

If this LO was a boy we would have called him Eric, my brother is getting a puppy in March and announced his name will be Erik. I'm glad we're having a girl but if it was a boy I don't think either of us would have given up the name. As it's a neighbours dog as long as you're happy to use it I would definitely go with it. Names are hard to come up with.

My sons LEO and my friends dog is Leo ... I still used it, jasper is really cute :-)

people will soon associate the name with your son not the dog. X

I wouldnt let the neighbours dog put me off. your child is going to far outlive the dog x

We nearly used our dogs name for the baby so doesn't bother me at all lol. Im not bothered how other people use a name.

We named LO the same as MILs dead cat, didn't even cross my mind not to use the name!

The only other boys name I like is also the name of another dead cat, she's had a lot of cats!

I had my heart set on a certain girls name for my first but one of my oldest friends has a dog with the same name. It did make me think what she'd say about it especially as she's not a child person but I don't think it would actually have stopped me from using it. I guess it depends who owns the pet and how much time you'd spend with the pet

I think it's fine to use. After all, ppl are using human names for their pets... not the other way around. So it's to be expected. It's not like you're thinking of naming your son Fido or Spot. My friend has a cute little pug puppy named Jasper.

I would consider naming a baby Alayna which was the name of my parent's dog when I was a teenager.

It wouldn't bother me at all. All of my pets have awesome people names (Toby, Theo, and Oscar) and if a neighbour named their baby one of those I'd just assume they have excellent taste in names. ;) They are, after all, "people" names, so I can't really think it's weird that someone would name their children those names.

I do think it's a bit weird when someone names their pet a name of a child that they're close with, though. We had good friends that got a puppy a few months after we had our LO and named their puppy the same thing as our LO and I was kind of like "huh... okay..."
