So, we had an induction scheduled for 3/24 at 6am. I was 3 days past due at that point, but my doctor allowed me to book it because I was so horribly uncomfortable. On 3/23 my fiancé and I went out to dinner to spend the last night as just the two of us. Got home, and tried to get some sleep.
I woke up at 1am the night before my induction with bad period like pains. I just kind of ignored it and tried to get back to sleep. Woke up again at 2am, and felt back pain associated with the period like cramps.. It was coming fairly frequently so I started timing it. It was official, I was actually in labor.. Contractions were 12 minutes apart and the pain was very tolerable. I relaxed on the computer until about 4:30am, and then they started getting fairly uncomfortable.. They were completely tolerable, but kind of made me feel blah. I knew I had to be at the hospital at 6am anyway, so I woke my fiancé up and asked him if we could head in a bit early as I wasn't feeling great. I jumped in the shower, got dressed, grabbed all of our stuff and went on our way.
My doctor warned me to eat something before I came in because they wouldn't let me eat anything until I had the baby. So we went to mcdonalds to get an egg mcmuffin on our way to the hospital, lol. We pulled up, ordered and the guy asked us to wait 5 minutes because the hash browns weren't ready yet lol - my fiancé was like, uh she's in labor so if you could hurry it up. The poor kid looked so confused, lol.. Anyway..
We arrived at the hospital around 5:30am checked in, got all settled and relaxed. I got in my delivery room and looked up at the ceiling, which had splattered blood on it!!! Immediately I got terrified and asked the nurse and she just shrugged lol. I was 2cm, 30% effaced and cervix was very soft when I arrived. My doctor opted not to start the pitocin on me to see how I would progress on my own. By about 10am, I was 3cm and about 50% effaced. They decided to start the pitocin.. My contractions went from tolerable, to holy hell someone give me the epidural quickly. Around 4cm and around 12pm, I got the epidural. The contractions had me hysterical crying before the epidural went in.. I couldn't breathe through them, nothing. They were about 3 min apart and lasting 45 seconds. The epidural was AMAZING. I instantly laid down and took a nap, it was so wonderful. The next few hours were kind of nothing.. Took me from 12pm to 2pm to get from 3 to 5cm. Then everything started picking up big time. From 3pm to 4pm I went from 5cm to 9cm. I felt tremendous pressure in my bottom, and felt like I needed to push every 2 minutes or so. The anestiologist upped my epidural to make that pain go away, it was not a good feeling. I wasn't ready to push yet as baby was still a little high up. My doctor told me I could start pushing at 4:30pm, but once I upped the epidural, I instantly fell asleep again.. so my doctor let me rest for a bit to get her even lower.. I woke up at 5:00 with tremendous pressure in my butt again and it was now time to start pushing.
My first 3 pushes were the worst. I instantly said "no way I can do this, let's go home". Regardless, we kept going. I cried the whole time, didn't breathe, and kept pushing my fiancé away from me. After a few rounds of pushing, the nurse in there told me i was getting somewhere and went to go get my doctor.. As soon as she left the room, I felt a massive urge to push and I did, and baby Becca popped out!! I screamed "what do I do now!?!" The only person in the room was a student who had no idea what she was doing, she just shrugged at me. So I kept yelling and in came running my doctor and my nurse to get her out the rest of the way.. Everyone had a good laugh over it once it was all calm.
I got a 2nd degree tear, and didn't care about it. Was the best day of my life. I labored 12 hours, pushed for 20min. Couldn't ask for a better experience. There were some horrible painful moments, and labor is NOT easy but my god is it worth it.
